Hotpoint side by side refrigerator (# HSM25GFRE SA) 4 yrs old makes loud moaning sound when running

I also have this "moaning"sound from my 2yr old refrigerator. It's terrible. It's not constant but it does it for hours and hours in a 24hr period. I have emptied everything out and checked for air circulation behind. Nothing has helped.

Also, the automatic icemaker does not shut off by itself. Even when full it keeps making more ice which pushes up the shelf above so I keep having to turn it off manually.

My Whirlpool Conquest is only 2 and a half years old and also makes a loud roaring sound occassionally. When I unplug it and then plug it back up, it stops. I vaccuumed all the dust out of the bottom of it and that seemed to help some, but not completely.

It is the control board. There is a recall on certain models and serial #'s that will cover the parts, but not all are covered. do a google search for hotpoint or GE howling noise. you will find out all the info you need.

Fridge in storage for 4 yrs, now not cooling

Good day,
After that much time, be sure the fan motor in the freezer compartment is running, as well as the fan motor on the back bottom behind the cover by the compressor. Either could well have frozen up after 4 years of storage.
As well a refrigerant leak could have developed because of the time frame. However, if it is less then 5 years old, the sealed system would still be under factory warranty.

My refrigerator/freezer making a howling sound and an intermittent whirring sound. I have noticed this at night, not sure if it is doing this during the day.

I have the same model, and the exact same problem. Additionally, the compressor/fan for the freezer cycles up and then down (rising and falling noise pitch) at a frequency of about every 5 seconds. The howling is worse at night(!?). It is 4 yrs old and was in the house we just bought. Help quickly, or this is a CraigsList item.

Thanks

I have a Hotpoint, model # Hsm25gfre sa, that is cooling and freezing unevenly. Everything onthe bottom half of the freezer is frozen and the top half is thawing. Also, the water in the ice maker is not...

Make sure that the freezer fan is working and circulating the cold air. Then check the damper assembly to make sure that cold air is being circulated into the refrigerator. And lastly make sure that the self defroster is working - if not the evaporator will freeze up, freezer temps go up, and ice maker will not work if freezer temps are 10 degrees or higher. A digital refrigerator thermometer will confirm freezer temps being high.

Ge ice marker no 120v to seloniod water valve

It sounds like the plug-in for the solenoid valve is not making contact with the terminals on the solenoid . You can either buy a new connector or cut the plug for the solenoid and crimp 1/4 inch sta-cons (insulated type) to the wires.

Condensor sounds like it moans for a couple of seconds instead

Hello aeruslady1,

Do you mean the compressor? I'm sure you do. The condenser is the hot refrigerant line that comes off of the compressor.
It just sounds like you have an old compressor. I have seen them make noises for years before they take a dump. If it continues to run loud even after it starts however, then you may need to clean the condenser coil or replace the condenser fan motor. Another thing that might make it run loud is some refrigerant lines may be rubbing against something. This can be remedied by bending the lines.

Hopefully this helps.

Sincerely,
