Usually the motherboard's part code will be in relatively large print between the AGP and PCI slots. Have a look and post it here.

LOST DRIVER CD.

Hi,

If you don't know the drivers for your motherboard.

Download DriverMax from drivermax.com that software will tell you what drivers you need to update and provides the links, there is also an unidentified driver section which will identify devices that don't have generic drivers installed and it will tell you what it thinks the device is and supply the driver.

If drivermax fails, you can download www.belarc.com/free_download.html (Belarc Advisor) it will run a scan of your computer and tell you what your devices are, from there hopefully it will give you more detailed information of your device drivers that will lead you to finding the correct ones. Most importantly it will tell you your Motherboard model and number which then you will be able to search for those drivers online.Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Oliver.M

How can you tell if your flat cables Master and

I believe you are talking about IDE cables.

If your IDE cable ends should have a small "tongue" and the drives should have a notch. These cables can only be connected one way.

Older IDE cables have a red stripe down one side. If you look at the interface for the IDE cables on your drive or motherboard, the #1 pin should be marked somehow. LIne up the red stripe on the cable with pin #1 on both devices and you should be good to go.

Removing old DVD R/RW Drive and installing a new one; not sure about how to ''unplug'' old one and ''plug'' in new one

Its simple, loose the system, unscrew the Drive, behinde you will see two kinds of wire connected to the drive. One is Powering while the other is called IDE cable, it connects the Drive to the motherboard. You might probably see a thrid wire that is small; it connects Audio from drive to the motherboard.

Remove the power from the old Drive and put in the new one, like wise the IDE cable. As for the IDE cable, you need to insert the right part, the center of the IDE cable does not have a hole and the center of the Drive does not have pin. So you need to check both of them very well to make sure they are fixed appropriately.

They you can power your computer and get started. And make sure you crosscheck after fixing to be sure it is well connected.

I wish you the best.

Dvd/cd audio plug and or wire

Here is a link from HP for your motherboard:

Is the DVD drive a SATA drive? That is, does it have a small (approx. 3/4") connection next to the power connector or does it have an IDE 40 pin connector? If it is a SATA drive, you do not need an audio cable connection.

You can go to almost any office supply store and they should have some kind of selection for 'ide' cables. they are relatively cheap as well.

Putting the cable in the right spot

Are you trying to find out for your power supply cables or your data/motherboard cables? There are a lot of different kinds of connectors, so make sure you have the right one plugged in the right way. Here are pictures of both:
Your computer may use both the older and newer style plugs and cables.

IF YOU HAVE THIS KIND OF CONNECTOR(OLDER) FOR YOUR HARD DRIVE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THE HARD DRIVE SHOULD BE PLUGGED IN TO YOUR PRIMARY IDE(PATA) PLUG ON THE MOTHERBOARD (IT WILL BE BLUE, RED OR A COLOR DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS). ALSO, SOMETIMES THEY HAVE A NOTCH, SO MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THE PATA (IDE)HARD DRIVE CONNECTOR IS THE GREEN ONE. HARD DRIVES AND DISK DRIVES ARE 40 PIN AND FLOPPY DRIVES ARE 34 PIN(THE BLACK ONE).

pata.jpg HERE'S WHAT THE CABLE LOOKS LIKE:
ide_cable2.jpg HERE'S A PICTURE OF HOW TO PLUG TWO PATA DEVICES IN AT ONCE. IF YOU HAVE ONLY ONE DEVICE LIKE THIS, JUST PLUG THE ONE END INTO THE MOTHERBOARD AND THE OTHER END INTO THE DRIVE, LEAVING THE MIDDLE ONE UNPLUGGED.

A PATA DEVICE (AND SOME SATA DEVICES) USE A POWER CABLE WITH FOUR PINS AND LOOKS LIKE THIS:

HERE'S WHAT THE NEWER SATA PLUGS AND CABLES LOOK LIKE. THE CABLE ON THE RIGHT IS FOR POWER AND THE ONE ON THE LEFT IS FOR DATA.(THIS CAN APPLY TO HARD DRIVES OR DISK DRIVES)

THE DATA CONNECTOR FOR SATA ON THE MOTHERBOARD LOOKS LIKE THIS (THEY MAY NOT BE THIS COLOR):

I hope I have helped and haven't confused you!
