Printer Lexmark x3470 showing "Cover open" / "Cub abierta" while closed,...

Hi
This is a common fail in this model. there is a white plastic arm which works as an extender for the switch that senses if the cover is open or closed. This part is easily detached from its place (in my case not broken but it could happen I suppose) resulting in printer showing the message "Cover open" / "Cub abierta". the switch is situated under the scanner in the middle . when you lift the scanner part to see the ink cartridge, you see a plastic part underneath between the hinges that looks like a 2/3 of a circle that is the part that pushes the switch.
You should open the printers gut and place the loose part back in place. Be ware that flat cables' contact ends could easily brake! use precaution!

(if you shake your printer you may hear the sound of the lose part).

Happy solving problems!

My grand daughter is displced the number two character on the numeral keypad on my dell vostro 17". i have reassembled the two white plastic pieces (hopefully correctly) but I cannot reconnect the...

The easiest way is to check if the retaining lugs on the keyboard have been bent or damaged, may need easing back into place gently.
Then clip the white spring into the lugs and slip back into the recesses.
Then align the key into place and gently press on the key and it should snap onto the top retaining plastic lugs

I have a Lexmark 3400 series printer (x3470). I have it plugged into the computer and printer. When plugged in to the printer the "Power" button is on and I have a printer message "Cover Open" however,...

first remove the bar that holds the lid up.

(1)Just pinch it together easy and it will come out of the bracket.
(2)Then remove the lid for the scanner by just lifting and pull easy
and it snaps out.
(3)At the two back hinges press on the two hold sides and pull up easy on the lid. Do one side at a time.
(4) Now check and see if the white bracket is still on the switch and if not snap it back on. Then take some tape and tape it to the housing in the close mode. It will always be in the close mode and works just fine. You do not have to take it apart just take the two lids off and replace the plastic switch back on and tape it to the housing. You do have to remove the paper back holder. It to snaps out of it holder.
Hope this helps. Make sure to unplug it first.( both connection)

Long thin plastic piece fell out of Lexmark Z33

Google your printer, try pcappliancerepair.com. This item goes from one side of your printer to the other, passing through the cartridges holder. Look for the places it attaches. You may have to move the cartridge holder to the center to install the plastic.

Cover open

This is because the white plastic rocker switch which is very poorly attached to the micro switch at the back of the unit has become dislodged which means the micro switch is permanently open. Unfortunately due to its very poor design it has probably lost its plastic lugs which keep it attached to the micro switch.

Solution:
Locate the dislodged rocker switch, you may have to turn the printer upside down and shake it. If it won't come out, shake it after removing the cover...

If the plastic lugs are still in place then you are lucky. You will need to get inside the unit to refit it...

Open the unit as if you were about to replace the ink. Unclip the plastic prop at the top; you can pinch it using a pair of pliers. The cover will now hinge up much further, there is some minor friction still but it will come up to 90 degrees with a gentle tug.

It will now easily lift away from the hinges on the main body. You can remove the ribbon leads if you like. They go back again very easily.

You should now be able to get your fingers inside the unit. You will need a flat blade screw driver to assist you refitting the rocker. You should feel it clip into place if the plastic lugs are in place, even if they are worn. Test it and check it won’t fall off again easily.

It is much more likely that it will fall off again as the lugs have worn away.

This can be fixed by heating a medium sized paper clip with a lighter and pushing it through the side of the rocker, in the same location as the lugs. Cut the paper clip with the pliers, this will leave a 2-3mm pin sticking through the side of the rocker. Do this for both sides. Resite the rocker, then using a flat blade screw driver push the pins into the holes on the black micro switch. This should be quite easy as the rocker will still site in the correct position even if they are missing.

You will now have a fully functioning switch which will be far stronger than the original design.

Put everything back together, and test it.
