Question about Sharp AR-M237 Copier

1 Answer

Windows Vista Printer Driver

We have a Sharp AR-M237 Copier that we can print to over our network. We have purchased two computers recently with Windows Vista. I tried to install the driver using the supplied disc we got when we purchased the machine, but it will not run correctly. Vista will install the printer using the Add Printer. However, when printing a test page, it prints a blank page. When trying to print from Word, for example, it will cause word to Lock up, and from Excel, I get an error saying it can't print to the printer.

Sharp USA lists several drivers, PCL5e, PCL6, etc. I tried installing these two, but they don't seem to help. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you,

Jerry in Salem

    Hey greatbigred,

I thought I tried that driver with no luck, but I will try again. I am off on a business trip for at least 3 weeks, so it'll be a bit before I can try it again.

Will post as soon as I get back

Ok, I just downloaded the file off of the Sharp Website again. It contains the PCL5, PCL6 and PS drivers. When I try to install these on the Vista machine, it won't print at all. I tried both teh PCL drivers seperately with no luck. When I go back to the original, I am still at the "Printing a Blank Page" fiasco. I have e-mailed Sharp to see if they will offer any clues, but for now, i am up a creek so far.

    Good morning GBR,

How the copier is set up is that it is 'Shared' via a computer that it is connected to, and that computer is running XP. The copier itself does not have an IP address.

The port is a Virtual Printer port for USB, which is even how all the other ports are listed on the other office computers running XP, and they work fine and dandy.

I do know that the setup file with the new driver is looking for a copier with an IP address, and it never finds one. When I try to do a custom install, the USB port is not an option listed to 'add' a new printer.

    Good morning again,

You and I seem to think alike. I did try the the options you listed in your last post. I went to the XP machine and tried the Additional Driver option, and you are right, Vista does NOT show up there.

I even went so far as to try and install the new driver on the XP machine, as the driver is listed as an XP/Vista driver. However, when I did that, even the host XP computer could not print anymore. I tried the PCL5 and PCL6 driver, no change. So, I put everything back to the original driver and left it at that.

I have not heard back from Sharp myself. Funny and odd, I have three e-mails out to different Tech supports for other reasons and get no responses from the companies themselves, and yet, I get better help from people like you.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to help. I do try to solve the issues before posting like this, but this one is escaping me.

    Jerry

I have the Sharp AR-M237 PLC5e all in one. There are three computers networked to the printer. I got a new computer the day before yesterday with XP Pro. the other two still use WIndows 2000 Pro. When I first installed the print drivers and set up the IP address for the printer every thing was fine . today nothing will print. All I get is a messge (Error: Printing data is inaccurate , printing is stopped). I have tried to set up as shared printing and still the same. I have also added driver for win 2000, 98, and Tried to install NT 4 with now luck. still not printing. I hate computers. Help?

Go to: http://www.sharpusa.com/products/business/copiers/business_copiers_drivers/
and select the copier and OS that you use. Download the PCL5e driver. When you finish downloading, you might have to extract it from the zip format, then run the setup.exe file and follow the prompts.

What port are you printing to? If it is LPT1, it will not work. You need to make a new port so it will work as a network printer.

    1. go to Printers and Faxes

    2. Right Click on the Sharp AR-M237 and select Properties.

    3. Select the Ports Tab.

    4. Click the Add Port button.

    5. Select Standard TCP/IP Port. Click New port.

    6. Type in IP Address of Copier. If you don't know it see below. Next.

    7. Select Finish

To find IP address on Copier, press system settings next to LCD screen. push key operator programs. Type in 00000. Push Network, then IP address. Hit CA button when done.

    Okay,

When adding a new printer, choose Network Printer instead of local. On the following page select browse, then look for the computer it is shared on, click the + sign next to the PC name and then select the printer.

Something to also think about, is the printer is installed on an xp machine and you are trying to print from vista, so you need to select additional drivers on the xp machine in the printer properties, select the sharing tab and select the Additional Drivers Button and select Vista. My guess is that it will not be an option in the drop down since most drivers assume you will install the printer on your most current PC and share to older PC's. I will call sharp and ask them about this if it does not work for you. Let me know please.

How do i set up my copier to print from my computer in a network

First you have to have a network card in the machine. Get the print driver for the machine. Make sure your Lan cable is connected and working properly. Install the print driver on your  computer as you would on a stand alone printer and do a test print.

Causing PC to turn off

The only way her computer would shut down is because the computer is telling it to shut down. Their might be a driver issue but I have not had or heard of this problem on the 100 or so that I have worked on. Completely remove any Sharp software from the PC (add/remove programs). Restart PC and got to http://www.sharpusa.com/CustomerSupport/ProductDownloads.aspx to download the most current drivers. Make sure that you have UNPLUGGED the copier form her PC if printing my USB or Parallel.

Faxing

You need Option, AR-FX7 (FAX) installed, real easy to figure out, look at the side, if you see a telephone line, with line and telephone connections (not the Network connection) then you have a fax.
Next your arm237 will also need to be able to print from the nextwork.. if this is all together..
you will need a driver called, PC to Fax for the AR-M237.
which you can find at www.sharpusa.com

Then you will have to set up the computer in the printer folder to PC to Fax.

Sharp AR-M237 Grayscale Copier Problem

Yes.There should be settings to enhance that in your print driver properties page.
Easiest way to access that is to open a document and click "file' then 'print and that will bring up your printer options.
Look around the print driver for ways to enhance your prints.
Most drivers have several options in graphics areas to make adjustments.
You can access printers from the controle panel and also right click the printer and select properties to access it.
There definatly are ways to adjust that.
Hope this helps you some.
