Question about ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

1 Answer

Ram problems I currently own a asus a8n- sli deluxe board with a socket 939 chip. i was recently using corsair value select 512 ram in one slot. when i was able to afford another matching stick of ram i followed the specs to run in parralel wich the specs say either ram in the blue slots or black. But when i goto start up my pc i get a blue screen and my pc beeps every 5 seconds like an error msg. once i remove one stick of ram my O/S (xp) loads up no problems. i want to add more ram but am frustrated due to this problem. any suggestions.

have you tried both sticks individually? Have you tried using both sticks together in both of the two color-coordinated slots (both in black or both in blue)? Have you tried one in each color slot - this will negate the doubling up of the RAM, so the realized speed will be the same as if there were only one stick of twich the capacity. Are both sticks the same speed and CAS latency?

Your memory should be in slots A-1 & B-1
You Asus board uses the Award bios. The link posted below will tell you what your beeps are saying.

In your case do as I suggested above. I have two working
A8N-SLI Deluxe boards & the memory works fine in A-1 & B-1 slots.

Good luck & best wishes!

Socket 939 Motherboards are pretty rare. Basically, if you find any socket 939 motherboard, the parts you have now should all fit precisely since there are only a few socket 939 motherboards right now on the market.
Here is one i found.

Is there a serial number on a the motherboard itself? I have asus A8N-SLI deluxe that is not putting out any display. And need S/N and dont have the box it came in.

You do not need the serial number to download the video driver, but you need the motherboard number, this is printed on the motherboard.
You can download the drivers from ASUS WEB site. Selectyour model motherboard/computer/laptop, and make sure you select the Windows XPor Vista version of the drivers that matches your Windows operating system. Please click on this link to their WEB support site : - http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

939 pin Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 are the supported CPU's.
For the SLI connector, it's a 2 1/2 inch connector. (63.5mm).

How do you install 4 sticks of ram? I have 2x 512mb and 2x 1gb. Do I put the pairs in the same color slots?

Yes, there are 4 slots, two colors....put the same ram configuration in the same color. RE: 1 GB sticks go in one color, 512 MB sticks go in the other.

Problem adding Additional Ram to my Asus A8N SLI DELUXE system

Just because BIOS is recognizing the RAM doesn't necessarily mean it is usable. Also, ASUS recommends that you have the same amount of RAM in each bank. Another point they make is that your motherboard does not support double-sided DIMM chips.

I would refer to the manual for their specific instructions on proper RAM configuration:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8N-SLI%20Premium/e2435_a8n-sli_premium.pdf

If you are concerned that the memory stick might be bad, swap it out with one of your older ones, and see if your system boots and performs as it should. If not, then you know it is bad. My guess is that if you populate the memory slots with 4 gb, the system will recognize and make all of it available to you.

Cheers
Nick

ASUS A8N-SLI memory issues

imondeau, do you still have you're manual for the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium? Please turn to page 2-12 & 2-13.
Need the manual? Click the link below & download it.

The QVL; Qualified Venders List, shows all the tested memory for this board. Edge memory is not supported. This is why the Edge memory only runs by it's self. Once you add the corsair memory they clash because they are not compatible working together in this Asus board. Both sets of memory could work in another board. (Maybe)! What is also needed is if the corsair & edge DIMMs are SS = Single sided or DS = Double sided. How many chips on the corsair? How many chips on the Edge?
They must have the same total chips each each DIMM.

Edge does not sell memory compatible for the
Asus A8N-SLI Premium.
See this for you're self. Click on this link:
