Question about Acer Aspire 9300 Notebook
I have had this laptop for about a year and I pretty much leave it on 24 hours per day. Lately, overnight or during the day while I am at work (and the laptop is home), it has begun to shut itself off. It appears to be doing an "orderly" shut down because it never runs checkdisk at startup, but I could be wrong.
The laptop remains plugged in most of the time, which I am sure is not best for the battery; I believe it does need a new battery because it doesn't last very long anymore.
Within the Acer ePower Management, it is set to "Maximum Performance." I did change the settings for "System Standby" and "System Hibernation" to "Never," but it still shuts down.
Many times I leave work or web pages open so that I can pick up where I left off, so this has become a bit frustrating. If anyone can advise me on getting it to stay on again, I would greatly appreciate it.
It sounds like you are getting a blue screen error.
Most of the time these are resolved by manually running CHKDSK /R
To check for a blue screen error, right click on "My Computer"
Go to properties, click on the "advanced" tab, Click on the "Startup and Recovery" settings button.
Under "System Failure" uncheck "Automatically Restart"
Now if your computer is restarting do to an error then you will see the blue screen.
The important information to give back is the 0x000000** part which is displayed.

does it just shut down randomly? and then when you turn it back on it shuts down nearly straight away? if so then it sounds like the processor is overheating and as a saftey mechanism it shuts down. which could be a big problem.
or you just need a new battery. because you are supposed to only charge it when it is dead. if you keep it on charge and plug it into the mains randomly, then the battery will eventually lose it capacitence (basically how much charge it can hold) and then it wont last long atall. you want to hope its the battery.
hope this helps.
