No firewire 800 or 400 functions in Leopard for SIIG FireWire 800 + Hi-Speed USB Combo PCI Adapter

SIIG FireWire 800 Hi-Speed USB Combo PCI Adapter... I just installed this card in my G4 Mirror Doors Dual 1.25 processors with LEOPARD OS. The only function that works is the usb 2.0...neither firewire 800 or 400 work.

Firewire port usff 7010

If you're asking if a Dell OptiPlex 7010 USFF will support Firewire the answer is No...Unless you purchase and install a Firewire card

The OptiPlex 7010 USFF has the following external connections:
  • Front Panel: one microphone connector and one headphone connector
  • Back Panel: one line-out connector and one line-in/microphone connector
  • Network Adapter: one RJ45 connector
  • Serial: one 9-pin connector; 16550 C compatible
  • USB 3.0: Back Panel - 2
  • USB 3.0: Back Panel - 2
  • Video: 15-pin VGA connector
  • 20-pin DisplayPort connectors - 2
I don't recommend any USB to Firewire convertors but if you can find a Firewire Convertor PCI Express Card you can try installing it but remember the USFF has only one Mini PCI Express 52-pin connector, I've highlighted a possible product. It allows for Firewire 800 speeds. The included optional internal Molex power connection is only required if your Firewire device doesn't have its own power adapter

I want to know if i can install a siig firewire PCIe card into a dell optiplex 620 all-n-one computer

Hi Carl,
I am guessing you are asking about the Dell Optiplex "GX"620. :-) Anyway, if you are using the all-in-one setup shown in this picture:
d5391a27-91fc-4ec8-898b-6653fc66ea54.gif
then unfortunately, with the small form factor case that is used with this particular version of the Optiplex GX620, the motherboard doesn't have any expansion ports to be able to install a PCIe card. Here is a picture of the small form factor case with the side panel off of it so you can see how little room is left in the case after all of the components are installed.

As I am not familiar with what you are trying to accomplish or why you need a firewire card installed, I can only make a small suggestion, such as looking for a firewire to USB adapter for whatever you are trying to connect to your computer. If you are able to expand on what you are trying to accomplish, or what kinds of problems you are having, I would happy to try to lend you my expertise. :-) I hope this helps.

How can I add firewire to my HP s5730f slimline when the pci express slots are blocked? Is there a pci card I can use to add firewire?

Hi, yes, you should be able to add a firewire card that goes into a spare PCI slot inside your computer. I have provided some links for you to have a look at.

When you say your pci express slots are blocked, do you mean that you have a card, likely a video card, already installed in your pci express slot? You should have available pci slots anyway and you can purchase a fireward card and install it yourself. If you are unsure about this then you can do a search on youtube as there are lots of how to videos on there regarding this type of installation. Good luck. Andrew

DO I REALLY NEED A FIREWIRE CARD?

If your camera is Firewire, iLink,or IEEE 1394, then you need Firewire support or a Firewire card.

If your camera has a USB symbol, or says USB anywhere in the manual, you can use USB for the functions it allows.

There is no USB to Firewire or Firewire to USB without the use of an advanced device.

Buy a firewire DV cable for your camcorder, if you don't have a firewire port, buy an adapter. If its a laptop a PCMCIA to firewire. If its a desktop PCI, to Firewire. Plug it in, google the drivers, and then use windows movie make to get the video.

Imstalling internal card reader

Well, installing an internal card reader without a spot on the motherboard, is a little hard to do. I would suggest buying an external card reader. They are a little cheaper, and a lot easier to setup and use, since they just connect to a USB port which all computers have.
