Hi there, I have the above mentioned laptop that I am repairing but when I go to install XP on it it says there is a problem with ACPI and cannot install. It suggest trying to update the bios so I went to the acer website and got the latest bios ( travelmate 2500) which would upgrade the bios from v1.07 to v1.16. It will not install the bios as it says it is for a different model. So now I'm stuck!! Do you know of another bios I can try or a way round this problem at all?

Download the LAN drivers from the Acer WEB site. Makesure you select the model of your laptop the drivers you that require thatmatches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link toget to the Acer support: - http://www.acersupport.com/drivers_download.aspx
first of all, you must find a way to get in the BIOS. You can google search ACER TRAVELMATE CL51-15 BIOS updater. ensure that the laptop is connected to the charger befre you do any BIOS update. then you should be able to detect the hard drive and install you desired OS.
is it boot password of BIOS password?
if its BIOS password then you can get rid of it by resseting the CMOS.
to do this take wireless card out and have a look in the corners for a a little battery. unplug it and wait for 1-2 minutes then plug battery in, put the wireless back in(make sure the white and black cables are still attached correctly) and restart.
From BIOS you will be able to change the boot order and be able to boot from CD.
ive had a look on the acer website and there is a replacement bios available , but theres no mention if it would enable large Hd support , rather than flashing your bios and potentially destroying your laptop i would purchase a external drive , you can get the enclosures for 10-20 pounds and fit a decent size HD in this
1. Install the utility
2. Update the Bios, after read the instructions in the .zip file:
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/noteboo.../bios/3508.zip Be careful updating the Bios, double check the version and the model of your notebook. Cheers
yes you can do this way. only one thing you need to make sure and double check boot option in BIOS that; In booting sequence USB Drive should be the first one to boot as this way laptop will boot from there and you can install recovery discs. I beielve you have external USB CD Drive!
I am not sure exactly which key to press on your Laptop but when your computer boots up you need to press quickly "DEL" or "F2" or something like this to go in BIOS options before it goes to windows loading screen. you can see which key to press when computer boots up and these information comes on the screen somewhere before windows loading screen.
Acer Travelmate 3210 is the Series and in that series your Laptop model is 3212NWXMI
like Acer Aspire 5300 is series and 5320 is the model number like that.
there was no need to update Bios now in case your laptop is turning on Please try to start in the Safe mode and there you shut down your laptop properly and try Restarting in normal mode. Secondly, If you are well versed with the technology then please try to reinstall the Windows Xp
and BIOS update is something you should be very careful of. do not try unless it is MOST required
