Our 3 year old Vizio plasma TV just made a popping sound and the screen went blank, then about 30 seconds later, a horrible piercing buzz started and we had to unplug the TV to get it to stop...Any ideas?

It just happened to me on 4/7/10. My vizio p50hdm made a popped noise & did not turn on. I purchased the tv at costco on June 2005 w/amex card. I pulled my amex statements from 2005 then called costco with my member # and they found the transaction. If you purchased the tv before 4/2007 the item is grandfathered with the 100% customer garrantee. After 4/2007 the return policy changed to 90 day money back return 2 year warranty and you get an additional year if you purchase w/amex card for a total of 3 years. Be very nice to the Costco people even if they give you an attitude on the return of tv. I got a credit for $2200. I just purchased a samsung led tv 46 series6 back lit & internet. Amazing Technology. & I Love Costco

It sounds like the power supply inside the unit has blown. This could possibly have caused severe damage to the internal components of the TV.

At this point you should NOT plug the TV into any outlets as this could cause electrocution or fire.

I recommend you look into getting the unit looked at, repaired or replaced by either Vizio or a Television repair shop. This could end up costing you quite a bit of money - I know how steep some repair shops can be.

Best of luck.

Our 3 1/2 year old Vizio P42 plasma made a pop, screen now blank

Hello kilmertwo, my names Dave! What your TV did is called the POP OF Death! In order to repair the TV you will need to replace the Y sustain & the Z sustain board also! The loud POP noise you heard came from the Z sustain! If you take this TV to a local repair shop the cost of the repair is going to be around 800.00 big one! 450.00 parts and 350.00 labor! Not only will you be spending that amount but this is a common problem with this TV! So you take the chance of this happening again! What I'm trying to do is to save you from throwing good money after bad! Do not repair the TV! You can for the same amount of money buy a totally brand new TV! I would suggest that you buy a Panasonic! Trust me!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I'll be more then happy to answer any question you may have!

Was watching my vizio and i heard a pop and the screen went blank, but there still is sound, its about 4 years old can it be fixed and ballpark on how much it would cost to fix!

Main Power Supply issue! The repair would cost you more than what a new flat panel would cost you. Vizio is a Chinese made TV. Only lasting 3.5 to 4 years. Go out and buy yourself a new Christmas gift a new flat screen TV. Try to get a name brand one like Sony, Samsung or Panasonic. They have great service records. Vizio is your typical breaks, throw it away.

42in Vizio black screen, no sound

I had the same issue happen to my vizio lcd just this weekend. Everyone is telling me is a bulb or backlight or something. It would explain the loud pop and no picture, but I'm not getting sound either so I'm not sure what exactly happened. Only after about 2 years too. I'm trying to find parts to just fix it myself.

Trys to power up makes Buzz, then nothing but light stays green.

those vizio plasma have a lot of problems, its still most likely the Ysus board, but it will have to be tested to know for sure. If you bought it at coctco you are in luck, if bought a couple of years ago they will give you a full refund. you can try replacing it yourself by checking shopjimmy.com or ebay

Screen went black on Vizio 42" plasma TV

The cost to repair it might not be a worry, parts for those types of sets are not available, the plasma style sets are replaced by LCD/LED.

Vizio 42 Plasma Pop

My 42 Inch Vizio experienced the pop of death out-of warranty. I bought mine at Sears and they sent a technician over within a day or so. It turned out to be in the power supply and they shipped a board right out. Total including parts and labor was $280. Although no expensive TV should die after less than 2-years, Sears seems to be able to deal with repair in the home without drama.
