I have only had this player for a year and a half. About a month ago, I tried to turn it on. It gave me a warning sign saying to "connect player to pc". I did this, but the computer will not recognize it. I've even plugged it into another pc, but, the same thing happens. I would use the Device Manager, but, again, the pc will not recognize it. I have reset it to no avail. I paid about $200 for it and would REALLY like to fix it. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated!

As far as opening the Philips Device Manager - if it won't pop up automatically, then on a computer running Windows XP, you can go to Start (on your desktop) --> All Programs --> Philips --> Philips Device Manager to open the program.
It's dead. The HDD models are basically obsolete - you may have purchased it 4 months ago, but it was manufactured 3 years ago. Here is the basic troubleshooting to be sure, but it won't work:
Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear: Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off.Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab.Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions. After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again. -Tha Mp3 Doctor
There is a lock on the side - unlock it and try charging again. Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear Open the Philips Device Manager (Start à All Programs à Philips Digital Audio Player à SAXXX à Philips Device Manager) and click on the “Repair” tab.Then click on the “Repair” button to start the repair process.Most of the time, when your player is in that state, the Device Manager will not recognize that your GoGear is plugged in.If this is the case: Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Go to www.philips.com/support 2. Enter your country/language 3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever 4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it) 5. Click on "Software & Drivers" 6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager" 7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager 8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course) 9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date." -Tha Mp3 Doctor

WARNING: this process will erase all songs off the GoGear. Disconnect the GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off. Hold in the volume + button.
