Question about Beverage-Air BEVBM23 Commercial Beverage Dispenser

1 Answer

I have a BM23 Beverage-Air kegerator. It was working great until a blackout last week. I had a surge protector on the unit, but ever since then, the temp. would stay around 48-50 degrees. I had an electrician come out and he said the compressor was shot. Could there be any other reason why this happened or is my kegerator a thing of the past?

I, too, have a unit that is not cooling after a power outage followed by a stretch of being unplugged.

Electrician do one thing, electricity. If the unit cools, the compressor is running. a power outage should not put the compressor in a "Weaken" state. I would check the starting components. don't overlook your surge protector causing a voltage drop. try running the unit without the protector.
let me know if I can be of any further help.

I'm trying to find out the age of my Beverage Air BM23 Kegerator. It's serial number is #823620I.

Scott,

Your Beverage Air Kegerator model BM23 / serial: 823620I - that serial didn't bring anything up when I called the manufacturer but based on the first 2 digits of the serial and the roman numeral 1 at the end of it - it would appear that your unit was manufactured in 1982 (If that number was on a metal tag then it defiantly was 1982).

We specialize in cooler gaskets and can help you locate the gasket part your unit needs. We also are able to get many other hardware and accessory parts for Beverage Air units and other manufacturers. Let us know if we can help.

Yes replacing the relay may fix the problem. You want to replace all the start parts. Overload, relay, and capacitor if one is present. Your unit is probably 1/3 horse power or less. You may be able to install a universal 3N1 starter from Supco, rated at 1/4 -1/3 H.P. If new start gear does not fix the problem you may need a new compressor.

Beverage-Air Kegerator Not Staying Cold

It can take a very long time to get a keg of beer down in temperature. The heat transfer from a keg is slow due to the lack of air circulation inside the keg. You should also check your condenser coils, make sure they are clean. Door gasket should also be in good repair. Hope this helps.

Beverage air dd58 kegerator won't stay cold

The unit is probably low on gas again. If it lasts a month the leak may be difficult to find, as it may be a small leak. Those units don't hold a lot of gas. Have someone do a nitrogen leak check and fix the leak. If no leak is found, have them install a UV dye to help find the leak. :)

Wont cool below 50 degrees

Seems like the T-stat may have a dead spot on it since it started when you changed the settings. It is possible to trick (short) the t-stat to cause it to cool FOREVER, that would check your refrigerant charge is good. Would lean more toward t-stat problem first.
