I have a Toshiba 42 LX 196 flat screen television. Working fine yesterday. turned it on this afternoon and all I get is the "Sleep Timer" light flashing on the bottom panel of the set. Nothing at all on the screen. I have tried turning the set off and on again. Unplugging it and everything I can think of of both the television and cable remotes. This television was aquired used and I do not have the manuel on it. I have been using it for a couple years with absolutely no problems. "HELP!!!"

If its an older tv it may just be its time or if you had any surges it could have blown something it may be as simple as calling a television mechanic to come look at it and simply change out a breaker but before calling a technician take into the consideration the costs for fixing the television may be close to the price of an entirely new television

I purchased yesterday a 42"

I came across this very same problem a year or so ago regarding a Plasma TV and connection via scart. It turned out to be a problem with the scart lead. Replacing the lead with an all pins connected type fixed the problem. It was caused by the TV not being given the +ve voltage on pin8 and the TV thought it was not a proper signal and shut down.
Hope that helps.

My 42" philips LCD flat, HD Perfect pixel, Top of the line set is turning off on its own. I turn it back on and in a few min. it turns off again....

It might be due to a sleep timer which makes the TV turn off automatically at a specific time.To fix this,I recommend your look at your TV'S menu and look for the privacy control. After, you press this, you'll probably find a option that says sleep timer.Next, choose this option and customize your TV'S sleep timer, but if you don't want one, just set the timer at 00:00.Hope this helped your problem!

The TV turns itself off after 14 minutes

Sounds like maybe you have a sleep timer activated?  There should be an option to reset the tv back to factory reset, this might help you.
