Toshiba 36zp38b Hi My CRT detailed above has a blank screen on start up. Sound and menus work fine. After a few minutes the picture will either become normal or the set will shut down. I believe this to be a common fault with this model. Is this a fault with the dss module or the scan converter module. Is it a simple repair for a DIY enthusiast? Cheers

Hi.

Yes the dss module is very common to fail.
Unless you have proffesional soldering station & can work on ics whith 200 plus legs do not attempt to repair.
On ocaision if you moan to toshiba they will send A replacement module free of charge. I have had several come to our shop where Tosh has done this the module is just over £100.00 to buy.
All you need do then is pay to have it fitted saving over £100.00

Hope this helps

Chris.

Sound but no picture

Hello,

If everything else works - there is sound and high voltage (static on the screen) - but there is no picture (including no on-screen menus), this limits the likely area of problems is the video output circuitry or CRT filament connections. Check to see if the CRT filaments are glowing. If they are not glowing, check for bad soldering on the CRT neck board and around the flyback transformer.

Where the picture is erratic - coming and going entirely or changing brightness suddenly, with power off, remove the picture tube socket (carefully!) and clean the pins with fine sandpaper and use contact cleaner on the socket. This source of bad connections can result in a variety of erratic symptoms. Check for bad solder connections on the CRT neck board.
Good luck...

TV screen goes blank but power stays on

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.

NO PICTURE AFTER FEW MINUTES/DARK PICTURE/ERRATIC/NO MENU VISSIBLE

Most projections have a removable speaker cover on the front under the screen. Then there is an access panel that you remove the CRT sockets are the circuit boards attached to the CRTs

Green and purple vertical stripes on our TV screen

The cause is one or more shorted transistors either on CRT board or on main or both. The colors are red, blue and green, you have a transistor for each and a bias trans. check each there are 6 in all.

Toshiba 36zp38b picture problems

With it only being about 3 years old, I would suspect bad solder connections rather than defective components like Capacitors. You may get the symptoms to come and go by slapping the side of the set or jaring it slightly which would prove the bad connection thesis. It is not a permanent cure however and you can make it worse if you keep doing that. A solder repair shouldn't run over $225 in my opinion.

Initially No Picture when Turned on but sound normal and 5 minutes later Picture is all RED and then Picture becomes NORMAL (all normal colors)

theres a high voltage block that all three of the anode leads attach to and sometimes a small crack happens across this block and will not let some or all of the crt's get the high voltage all at once untill it heats up a bit. now if this is not your problem i would make sure that all three crt sockets are attached to there tubes all the way as maybe justy maybe there loose and will only work after ther expand a bit. Now another problem that could cause this problem to occor origially would be that someone left off a crt ground strap and the crt arched and popped and caused the problem with the High voltage block. And no I cant see a tube being bad then comming on at first UNLESS when you say the red comes on is the picture all red with small retrace lines(small white lines)in the screen with no picture except for red???? No video only a red blank screen is what i mean. If thats what its doing then yes Ive seen heater to cathode shorts on a picture tube that would cause this problem but to be sure your really gonna need to have the set looked at.. Good Luck
