Question about LaCie 500GB P3 HD USB 2.0 7200RPM 8M 500 GB Hard Drive
One of my two external 500GB LaCie P3 USB 2.0 started up the other day with a clicking sound and with a blinking amber indication light and no connection with computer. I swapped the power supply unit with an identical and even dismounted the HD (samsung 500GB SATA) from the casing and tried it in my stationary computer without any changes, it still just clicks. I guess there is some serious malfunction behind this problem. Sad thing is that I got this HD filled up with lots of clients data and I'm afraid it's lost. Any idea what to do? I think I will not recommend LaCie anymore.
There are companies that can recover the date from the disk of a failed hard drive, check online, It is expensive.

had the same problem: (soft) clicking sound, orange/yellow blinking LED
Tried another power supply: nothing
Reattached that power supply back to the drive it was connected to: same problem there now as well!
Tried yet another power supply: working (all drives)
My guess is that the power supplies are the cause of the problem. Taking mine back to the shop next thing tomorrow morning...

Does it make any clicking/clunking sounds like any of these?
If yes - it's really bad and there's nothing you could by yourself..
If it sounds normal or doesn't spin up at all then try to remove it from enclosure and connect directly to a PC.

try it on different usb ports on your system
try replacing the cable which connects the hard drive with the usb port
if this does not works the problem lies in the portable hard drive and i think it would be under warranty period so get it checked
