Question about Toshiba RD-XS25 DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder

2 Answers

Daewoo DF4501PN I've recently bought a DF4501PN DVD/Combo unit (new, from a website)which seems to have packed up. Tapes do not 'settle' and the synchrolls about (even after winding the tape front and back to settle it).As if that's not enough the tape jamms half-up and it cannot be removed. Itried a recording a DVD from the TV, but it didn't want to format thedisc first, but complied with the 'record' command. It wrote somethingon the disk, but I cannot get it to play on anything. I'm using DVD rdiscs. Trying to record to DVD a taped programme is a waste of time due to the synch problem. Can you point me in the right direction please?

Hello , I had similar symptoms with my Daewoo . I got in touch with Daewoo via their main landline number and they were incredibly helpful in solving all my problems.

Cannott get a picture on my tv from my DVD/VHS COMBO

Your DVD player should be connected to either the Yellow White Red connections on your TV set (same color to same color -- dvd OUT to tv IN )

OR it should be connected using the RF cables and connected inline AFTER the Direct TV Box....the box would block the DVD; and possibly the Direct TV Master box would apply 19 Volts to the DVD modulator....destroying the modulator.

Always OUTput to INput on the connections...

Also try with a new set of connections. make sure all the ports are ok.

Many combo tvs are simplified so as to play its own dvds or in this case its own vhs tapes. Never purchase a combo unit unless you wish it to be stand alone. Always look for how many plug-ins are on a tv before you purchase it. The number of plug-ins is a sure way of telling the quality of the tv or any other device. If all you have is a co-axial input then use that to send a signal from a dvd player that has a co-axial in and a co-axial out. Turn the tv to channel 3 to play through a dvd player. Use the remote control from the cable company to change channels on their box and change the volume manually unless you can find a setting for that to change the internal volume in the cable box.

Clicking sounds when playing VHS tapes

On one hand I would say not to be concerned about the clicking since nothing seems to be affected. However, if the noise is loud enough to be a bother, or for your own peace of mind, consider returning it to the retailer for exchange if you still have that option. I've heard clicking sounds from other VCRs because of some of the moving parts and it's been nothing to worry about. But I'm not familiar with the guts of your model, so I can't say it's not a sign of some problem that might get worse over time. It's your call. Not really a "solution" I know, but without opening it up for myself and looking for the source of the noise it's the best I can offer.

VCR won't accept tapes

VHS VCRs are not being produced in very large quantities any more. You may still be able to find a combo unit DVD/VCR.

The problem may be a belt or gear, or it may be that the tray is damaged. Only a tech can tell you, but there's little point in repairing these. I know Wal-Mart still sells them...
