Just got a new asus eee pc 1005ha, after trying to install YM, it froze, I had to restart it, it kept freezing in explorer too, when trying to remove the antivirus, so I tried to use the recovery option (f9 before windows boot). Got an error message saying that image file was corrupt and after that it would not boot at all, just a black screen and a blinking dash. Suggestions ?!
Replace hard drive,
First remove 4 bottom screws, and Ram cover.
remove keyboard by pressing down on the 4 tabs across the top of the keyboard with a small flathead screwdriver. disconnect ribbon from body
once keyboard is removed unscrew the 6 black screws where the keyboard was they are the same as the other 4 bottom so do not worry about mixing.
pop open the top casing starting in the top right working your way around to the top left in a clockwise motion.
disconnect ribbon from body
remove and replace the harddrive from here.
Find a PC install a program such as WinToFlash (freeware) and create an installable copy of Windows XP on a flash drive no smaller then 2 gb.
Put flash in USB slot
press escape as computer starts choose the USB drive
Format and install XP from flash
Hi
If this is new enough to be under warranty I'd send or take it back. The hard drive partition(s) is/are corrupted.
