Hi, Unfortunately the shutter has likely worn out, in that camera it can be fixed but costs upwards of $300 when you find someone who is able to fix it if you don't have warranty left on the camera. If you need more help let me know =)

The connection from ccd to camera has failed, probably due to dry joint, Canon dont own up to this, so it s shell out about £140 for a repair or chuck it in the bin!!!

It's a small PDF file which has a diagram on the correct orientation of the SD card and batteries I think the actual owners manual is lacking in these diagrams.
I think though that you are attempting to install the memory card the incorrect way.

Also I'm going to include a great diagram for the SD card locking switch that if in the wrong position won't allow your to format a new card to the camera.

This should solve your problem don't forget to format your card to teh camera before using.

If you are shooting using AUTO mode, maybe the settings were changed to a manual modes. If so, check for settings. Flash fires automatically only in AUTO. On manual modes you must force the flash to fire.

For viewing you must turn to the right, it means your switch for record on is defective.
Your Canon repaircenter can fix this for you, if not contact Rotronica in the Netherlands for repair.

Hi, I don't know if this is going to be your problem, but recently the Canon anounced a recall for Canon S1 IS, due CCD problems. Most people with this problem complains of lines on the image, or the image going completely black. Some are having their CCD changed, but most of the users are having their S1 replaced for a brand new S3. Contact the Canon Technical Support, and maybe you get a S3 for free...
