Dell Dimension 8400 won't turn-on/respond after having problems

The computer started having a problem and indicated drivers were misssing. I reboted and nothing happened. I tried several more times and now the computer won't even turn on. I opened up the case and see the "green" light indicating its receiving power, but it won't respond.

Reinstalled Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 8400 and The local area connection is not detected. Cannot seem to find drivers through Dell support

Dell Dimension 8400 PC"s use either Broadcom Extreme Ethernet controllers OR, on SOME models of the 8400 that do NOT have ON-board Ethernet connections, SMC Networks Ethernet Drivers. I've seen MANY a Dell Dimension.

Set up cd rom dell dimension 8400

Hello Download drivers here at dell:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/dimension-8400

The drivers can be downloaded one by one.

You maybe need to unzip the file before you install.

Here is only drivers for win xp.

You can`t download a setup disk but you can call dell support
to order the software from them (if they still have it) by the service tag.

Good luck

Dell dimension 8400 blinking amber light ethernet port

An Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Since you replaced the power supply, my guess is that the motherboard has a problem.
Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

Dimension 8400 locks up. Keyboard won't respond.

Generally and indication of a software issue that is locking the system. There can be hardware causes too.

  1. Run diags on the system (From Resource CD or F12 menu) see if any failure. If you have a hardware failure then address it and see if the problem is solved.
  2. Update bios and drivers from support.dell.com
  3. Edit MSCONFIG, startup group, remove entries that are not required (Generally only AV and printer scanner items are needed here, most other items will function without and item here)
  4. Edit the Virtual Memory settings, and set it to Custom and an amount double the RAM (EG: 4 GB RAM set initial and Mas to 8200 MB VRAM)
