Acer aspire 9500:problem with sound dev...

Hi,  Even if I plug my computer directly into the internet through the eathernet cord it does not connect to the internet and if I try to play anything through windows media player ti says that windows media plater cannot play the tile because there is a problem with your sound device.  If I click on something that can't open it makes a noise but for some reason it doesn't play music or a dvd.  I have run the troubleshooter without any luck.  Hopefully someone can help!  Thanks
