When you have installed the generic driver you must set up the port speed and parity bit settings to mach your printer
turn on the printer while holding "feed" and it will tell you what baud rate it is set to.

When printing black, the first page comes out in clear black, however subsequent pages are printed in red. In doing a second document the same thing occurs.

Be sure to update your printer drivers with the newest (correct) manufacturer's drivers.

Also, make sure when you print a document you are printing in greyscale. Otherwise, you're wasting your color cartridge. Speaking of which I would try another set of cartridges, and aligning them using the software that came with your printer. Your color cartridge could be malfunctioning.

Connect x2580 Lexmark printer to toshiba laptop

Hello chuck01438 ,

  1. Remove the printer out of the box and connect the power cable to a power adapter.
  2. Install the drivers and necessary software. Enclosed with the printer package should be a driver CD-ROM for the printer. It might also contain some print enhancement software supplied by the manufacturer of the printer. Follow the instructions for software installation.
  3. Connect the square end of the USB cable to the printer and the rectangular end to your laptop.
  4. Turn the printer ON. Your laptop should find the newly attached hardware, and recognize it as printer.
  5. Open any document or picture and click on Print in File menu or click on a printer icon in the toolbar.

Check that your black ink cartridge has ink inside, eventually try a new cartridge , as ink may have dried up in old cartridge.
If you use a new cartridge ensure you removed cellotape from cartrige.
If cartridge is ok, then it is printer nozzle/head for black ink.
In this case do nozzle check / head cleaning in printer tools a couple of times.
If problem persist you may need to check and clean printer's head with cotton and solvent.

Dots on print out

hi textmum,

Usually anomalies of this kind on the print output indicates that the printer is overdue for a maintenance cycle. This is due to the usual operating wear and tear the printer experiences during it's life cycle.

Seeing as how this could be an expensive operation, I suggest we first eliminate problem with the printer driver as the cause of the anomalous print output. To do this I need you to reinstall the printer on your PC using the latest drivers:

  1. Download the latest driver for your printer at
    http://www.samsung.com/za/support/download/supportDown.do?model_nm=ML-1520&mType=DR&vType=L&disp_nm=ML-1520
(be sure to select the driver which corresponds to the operating system you are running on your PC)
  2. Delete the printer from your PC
  3. Install the printer using the newly downloaded driver
If reinstalling the printer using the latest print driver doesn't result in a solution to the print output problem, we can deduce that the problem is caused by a hardware component.
To solve the hardware related problem you will need to either perform the maintenance cycle yourself or take the printer to a computer repair shop so a IT technician can do it for you. This process involves buying a maintenance kit (which contain replacement components for the printer), and replacing the components according to the maintenance kit manual.

Hope you find this information helpful in solving your printer related problem

I don't know how things work on a Mac, but if you're on a Windows based system, make sure the printer driver is installed on BOTH machines.

I did see you reinstalled your software) but please continue
It is important that you have that icon by the clock. Power off the printer by pressing the power button on the printer.
Please un-install your printer software through Add/Remove Programs within the control panel. Please restart the Pc after un-install is complete. Create a folder on your hard drive and name it, "HP DeskJet 840C". Go to this link listed below & download the printer driver software listed. When you save to disk you can choose where you want to save. Pick the folder you created. Save inside this folder. The HP driver (Will most likely be updated software). I promise, you will have a icon down by your clock when finished.

Follow the instruction in your manual for setup & installation.
If you using Outlook Express & you want to print or send through your printer the page should be set as 8.5x11". Orientation should be set to Portrait, unless you set this for A4.
Lastly, please turn off your anti-virus software during install & re-install. Just in case you come back to this thread!
