MY SONS PS2 HAS JUST STOPPED PLAYING DISC'S. THE DISC IS NOT SPINNING AT ALL. PLEASE HELP

Sorry to say but, it sounds like the dvd drive has died on you. I would suggest trying a few different discs, if you can get it to spin again, then get a lens cleaning disc. Or manually clean it yourself, which involves opening up your console, and swabbing the lens with rubbing alcohol. This is a great vid from youtube that shows you how to do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4aDoNScvNA . If the drive motor is dead then I would recommed searching ebay for a new/used working dvd drive motor. I just checked and they are $10 on ebay. Installing dvd drive motors is easy. The other option would be to just pick up another console off ebay, these days ps2's are very cheap. Here is another great vid that may help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIwbu5zb-kw&feature=related. Best of luck to you, hopefully this helps.

It says..please insert a playstaion or playstation 2 disc format.

It's not asking for a specific disc, it's asking for a properly formatted PlayStation disc.

This message could mean that any one of several things has happened:
* You are trying to play a Japanese disc on a US PS2, or vice versa
* You are trying to play a game that has been copied onto a CD-R/DVD-R
* Your disc is scratched/dirty/otherwise unreadable
* Your disc isn't a format that the PS2 recognises (i.e. CD, DVD, PS CD-ROM, PS2 CD-ROM, PS2 DVD-ROM, etc)
* Your PS2 is broken

My playstation 3 is not playing any games. i'll put the disc/dvd in normally however it is as if the console does not aknowledge there is a disc/dvd inside it. is there anything i can try before i send it...

Hello,
When you put in a disc, listen for the disc to start spinning. If you do not hear that then the laser diode has blown out. You will have to get your Blu-Ray player serviced by a pro or Sony. Sony may fix it for free or replace your unit.. They know that the drives are failing. So call them first. If you know how to do it yourself, you will need part KES-400A if it is not spinning. If it's spinning and not reading the laser may be dusty or need replacement. The laser by it's self is part number is KES-400A. If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to hit my "Ask Me" button.

You can purchase the KES-400A replacement lense and replace it yourself by looking at some videos on youtube.

I hope this helps. Good luck and happy gaming!!

PS2 Slim won't read dvd games

Blocking the sensors did you in I'm afraid. What has happened is the *DVD* read mechanism has gotten goofed because of this, but the *CD* read mechanism is still ok. Maximo and a few other PS2 games were actually on CD, not DVD. If you look on the back cover, you will see the Compact Disc logo (in the lower right area on the box for Maximo). These games have a blue bottom disc instead of the silver bottom. You can attempt to re-align the laser which is a fairly lengthy process and there are numerous guides out there to do this. Here is one: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars Note that this guide is for the larger model but the concept of lens adjustment is still the same and a quick google search will provide more in-depth detail. Since you have already opened your system, this may be an option for you. If the PS2 was purchased new as you said, it might not be the worst idea to exchange it for a new model as the lens going out this soon might be an indication that the unit wouldn't have lasted that long to begin with. Also just a friendly reminder that opening your PS2 voids your warranty and double check the return policies of where you bought the system.
