The internal speakers should automatically be disconnected by inserting a 3.5mm jack plug in the audio out socket. It may be that your headphones or external speakers are using a 2.5mm jack which is too small to operate the switches in the audio out socket. Purchase a 3.5mm jack plug [cheap] and plug this in if it disconnects the laptops internal speakers then you need to connect accesories with the correct size plug.

I have installed XP in CompaqPresariov3000 Laptop. I have configured audio driver which is sp34386. But I get the error message "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this...

configuring a audio device is always little tricky....if you have the original CD that came with the notebook try to sue that....
before that uninstall all drivers for audio and use the Device Mgr to verify that the device is enabled and working.
go to HP/Compaq site and try to get the larest driver for the device...
I too had the issue( i use 1 Compaq Desktop and 1 HP laptop) on desktop i used a external audio adaptor and connetced my speakers to that, so now my audio device of the motherboard is not in use as no amount od driver installation did not enable it....use this adaptor...buy in ebay for 1$ or if in India buy for apox 50 - 75 in a PC shop
suresh_krish.png you too can use an external audio device but u will need to use a external speakers, on a laptop it's silly...but at least it works....
visit my site
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com for more details on the adventure that MS did some yrs ago to disable audio devices of many PCs....specialy WinXP users....Win2000 was working...(my laptop had Win2000) and it's not affected.....

pls revertback...

Built in speakers not working

Are you using external speakers? or internal?

EXTERNAL SPEAKERS: If your are plugging speakers into your headphone jack and they dont play, but you plug headphones into the same port and they work fine.. then it is the external speakers.

INTERNAL SPEAKERS: But if you are using the speakers in the laptop, then your speakers are probably bad. Try some software settings, but probly just bad speakers. Could also be that the speaker cord inside the laptop came unplugged from the motherboard. In which case you would have to take the laptop apart and plug it back into the motherboard.

Good Luck.

I want to install external speakers to my Compaq V2000

There are quite a few speakers on the market of different sound quality. I sugest you get speakers that have a built-in amplifier and you connect the powered speakers into the headphone socket on the laptop. Take you laptop to a computer shop with a CD and or DVD and test it with various speakers and then select one that suits your tastes and budget.

Audio driver for C740TU,compatibale with win XP sp2

Hi,

For a Compaq Presario C740TU Notebook PC running Windows XP, audio drivers would be for Conexant High-Definition Audio. Importantly, SoftPaq Number SP31994, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," (or later) must be installed on the notebook before installing SP32823.
  • sp31994.exe 1/1 (6.12M) (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp31501-32000/sp31994.exe)
  • sp32823.exe 1/1 (6.12M) (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32823.exe)
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Compaq Evo N610c No internal sound

No, you need not to install soud/audio driver if its work with external speakers. Its seems that the internal speaker of your laptop has got damaged. So you shuld call your vendor for service. If you are in warranty it will be free for you.

Thanks

Iqbal
