Question about Canon BJC 80 InkJet Printer

Isn't printing at all...

Hello :-) When I first got my Canon BJC-80... I send something to the printer, it does nothing for a minute or so, status changes from 'Printing' to 'Printing - Cartridge Mismatch', then another pause, then it begins printing anyway and comes out fine. The cartridges are Canon Ink BC-10 black or BC-11e for black and color... the correct cartridges. Before I got it from my mother it worked totally fine. It's worked this way for about a year until now. Now, it does the same thing but changes to 'Error - Printing - Cartridge Mismatch'. Then takes lots of pauses in between acting/sounding like it is printing, but nothing at all is printed on the page when it is done. I am bewildered! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I do have Canon brand ink. I have several brand new, in the box cartridges, and tried replacing the cartridge with them. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the connection between the cartridge and the thing on the printer it slips into? I tried cleaning the metal surface that makes contact with alcohol and a q-tip, but it made no difference. I guess I should give up, but I've got tons of ink so its hard to let this printer go! Thanks so much for the prompt suggestions. I discovered this site because of the printer problem... wonderful discovery!

I am having the same NO PRINTING problem with my CANON BJC 80 printer. It has new cartridges (complete) and it goes through the motions of printing but nothing comes out on the paper!

I would not go out and buy new cartridges without trying the following. Go into the procedure of removing and re-installing the cartridges. While the cartridges are out, inspect for probable damage to the cartrigdes. Sometimes there can accumulate waste inks and interfere with the contacts. With a damp Q-tip, clean the contacts and wipe it dry. Concerned about the lint on the Q-tip? Use coffee filter. A readily available lint-free wipe. Re-install the cartridges and test. BTW, are you using genuine Canon inks? 3rd party inks can exhibit that error. Best Regards.

try to remove the cartridge and print it again. Try also to unplug/replug the USB and restart your printer to check if it prints. You may also use another pc to connect the printer and print. Otherwise call Canon to check it for a possible repair...

I have a Canon BJC 80 InkJet Printer. I have it connected to my laptop using a parallel USB cable. The problem I'm having is that whenever I try to print anything, it will sit there for about 5 minutes...

I could be wrong but it sounds like a communication error between your laptop and the printer, I would check that your Canon is compatible with being connected via a USB to parallel cable. If you're running a network you could install the printer onto a PC that has a parallel connection output and then share the printer. More info can be found at this link.

I have a BJC-80 printer but Vista on my laptop. I hook up the printer on Friday and it printed all weekend. I tried to print something on Monday and now it won't work. I was trying to see if I needed to...

This looks like a driver problem to me. I've just checked out the Canon website at:-

http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/index.asp

Looked in their software download pages for a vista driver for your printer. I can't find one.

I can only suggest you go to this page, Using the "Contact us" menu, ask them where you can find a compatible driver.

Trying to hookup bjc 80 to acer aspire 4730z running vista, don't have disc but am hooked up via usb.

you need the printer driver for vista in order to be able to print out. But Canon does not offer drivers for XP and Vista for bjc-80, however you can manually install the driver for BJC-85 and get the printing function going, but the scanner cartrige does not work through USB.

BJC 80 w/ Vista OS prints 1/2 page and goes to error mode.

Purchase a PCMCIA parallel port card. That's a PC Card parallel port adapter. It provides a native parallel port to laptops that do not have one built in. Works perfectly in ALL cases, even with the scanner cartridge.

Cable for USB conversion

YES. THERE ARE SEVERAL USB-PARALELL CABLES CABLES IN THE MARKET. JUST CHECK IN THE WEB OR YOUR HARDWARE STORE. PRICE SHOULD BE AROUND 15 TO 20 US DOLLARS, DEPENDING ON BRAND, QUALITY, ETC.
SOME OF THE (MOST) BRIG A DRIVER CD.
ONE THING YOU SHOULD HAVE IN MIND IS THAT WHEN INSTALLING YOU BJC-80 IT WONT PRINT UNLESS YOU GO TO PRINTER PROPERTIES, PORTS AND UNMARK "BIDERECTIONAL COMPATIBILITY", THE GO TO ADVANCED OPTIONS AND CHECK ON "PRINT DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER", OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. (SORRY ALL MY SOFT IS IN SPANISH...) RESTART THA COMPUTER AND ENJOY. I HAVE A BJC-70 AND A BJC-80, USE THEM ON XP SP2 AND VISTA. BOTH WORKING FINE. DO NOT EXPECT SPEED PERFORMANCE. GOOD LUCK

Slow printing

I'M USING MY BJC 80 ON A PACKARD BELL M35-U-57, VISTA HOME BASIC. CONNECTED THE PRINTER WITH A GENERIC USB-PARALELL CABLE, NO DRIVER. FIRST HAD THOSE 5 TO 7 MINUTES DELAYS FOR PRINTING. WENT TO THE PRINTERS "PROPERTIES", "ADVANCED OPTIONS" AND TICKED "PRINT DIRECTLY", IN THE "PORTS" SECTION I DISABLED "BIDERECTIONAL PORT". IT'S WORKING SWEET. NO MATTER THE QUALITY. Canon bjc-80 - no print appears but cartridge & paper move normally

I had this problem too. It turned out there was old dry ink in there clogging up the printerhead and it was fixed after I ran the cleaning programme several times. However I can't for the lifeof me remember how to do that now. I know I found it online but it has since vanished. Maybe check your manual?
