Problem after installing new Lens for LG DVD Player !!

I have bought a new lens for a DVD Player. But it needs to be unlocked, before it can be used. I have fixed the lens in the player, but when i started it, there was no laser beam emitted by the laser diode. I want to know what should i adjust to get that lens working properly? I want to unlock the lens. There are 2 presets on the lens, I tried adjusting them, but still it is not emitting the laser beam. Plz help me.

 Thanx & Regards.

Hi
I've been working on DVD players since they were invented, and was factory trained by Sony, Hitachi, and Kenwood, but I must admit, I'm not understanding your question.
The laser diode fires through a lense, that is supended on tiny wires, and moved into focus by an electro-magnet. Now, I have replaced lenses that have popped off due to poor adhesive from the factory, but I have no idea what you mean by "unlocking the lense"
If you mean that you have replaced the entire laser ***'y, and it is not emitting, then that is likely because the shorting bar has not been removed. It protects the laser during shipping and storage, and must be removed. If you compare it to the old laser, you will see pins shorted together by a tiny metal bar, or in some cases just solder...if this is not removed, the laser will not emitt. If you put the old one in and it does, then 99% that is the problem...if the old one does not, then the laser is probably not your problem. Hope this helps, and be careful to always look at the laser at an angle to check for red light, so you aren't performing home laser eye surgery...not a good idea!

P.S. After re-reading your question, on some models, it is possible to replace the lense ***'y, because the electro-magnet has failed in some way, and does not move the lense, but if that is the case, I don't know why the laser would suddenly stop emitting, just because that was changed...normally it is all one ***'y. Good Luck!

    Sir,
If spindle motor, ejector motor and sliding motor are tested and found ok to spin properly , but after putting power on the spindle motor slightly jerks for a second and no red light in laser assembly is found : what may be the problem.
    Thanks

I have a LG blu ray player that hums or buzzes whenever I play a DVD. If doesn't do it through the speakers but from within the player itself?

Hello
The Laser Pickup Unit's lens of your DVD player is dirty or dusty. Clean it. Just use a lens cleaning disc to clean it. Just buy one, if you haven't. It can be bought from most of the local electronic spare part selling shops at your town, and won't cost more. Play it at least two times. It will clean up the lens automatically. When the laser pickup units' lens is dirty, the laser beam that reflects from the disc will have a very low intesisty, and the mechanism alongwith its control circuits, will try to compensate this, by rotating the disc inserted at very high speed, and that is why you hear Hum from (within) the system. OK.

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Was this player playing previously? And how long have you been using this player? I suspect the lens of the player. Once the lens of the player becomes weak, it won't play discs any longer.

The first thing my mind goes to, is the lens. The lens id responsible for reading/loading data on discs. So if the lens is unable to read the disc, there is no way the player is going to play the disc.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or probably, a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

My dvd player was working fine this morning and now it's not reading discs. What can I do to fix this or do I need to buy a new dvd player? It is a Dual Deck DVD/VCR Player MVD4544 model

Good day!

This are the common and basic causes reading disc failure of DVD players.Try this D.I.Y procedure before you buy a new player.
  1. Check the CD itself. If the CD got many scratches, replace it.
  2. Clean the DVD lens using CD cleaner.
  3. Try to use other new CD or the one with no scratch.
  4. If the steps # 1 to 3 are not successful. The problem could be on DVD lens.
  5. If the DVD lens is defective you better to buy a new player.Because the lens is expensive and it is not easy to install on DVD player.

I hope this information will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

My dvd player plays cds but wont play dvds says disc error or unknown disc

Hello,

how long have you been using this player? The problem should be from the lens (laser).

The lens is weak and that's why it cannot read/load DVD's. The weak lens is also what's making it says "disc error" or "Unknown disc". It can still play Cd's because, Cd's does not contain large files, unlike DVD's.

Get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, but if the lens still does the same thing even after using the lens cleaner, then it means you would have to change the whole lens completely to a brand new one.

By so doing your player would play all DVD's with no problem at all.

Good luck.

I hav lg dvd writer it plays cd but dvd what to do

That is because of a dirty or defective lens. When you have a lens problem the unit may still play CD but not DVDs.

Try first using a lens cleaner disk, like the ones here.

If that does not work, the unit must be disassembled, and lense cleaned with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:

My lg dvd player/ recorder only plays some of my dvds. It states unknown disk then ejects them. Does it need a firmware update?

It is possible that the DVDs that you are playing are in need of a player on a different region. If that is the case tehn you have to unlock the region code for your player. If the DVDs were playing before that means that your lens is most likely dirty and you should try some lens cleaning solutions.

I hope this has answered your question sufficiently. If you have more questions please post a reply. Thanks.
