I had the locking screw come loose in the center and bottom of the chuck it has a left hand thread and is a torx head . It had backed out and prevented the chuck from closing.

The DW 929... Time for a new chuck.

The DC925s... the Rohm Keyless Self Tightening Chuck.... If you can clamp the short end of a large size hex key in the jaws and put the other end in a vise. Shift the drill into gear setting #1 (low, high torque). Grab the battery end and twist the whole drill very slowly counterclockwise and it should come loose.
If you have a broken jaw or something else where you can't clamp on a hex key... then not sure. The chuck can be completely disassembled but have never tried while it's on the drill.

The black thing at the end is the "keyless chuck". Grasp it just behind the silvery tip of the chuck with one hand, and grasp the knurled ring just behind THAT area with the other hand. Twist the "front" hand counterclockwise while you twise the "rear" hand clockwise. That will loosen the chuck so you can change bits.

How do I get the chuck off of my DeWalt DW 117 1/2" VSR Drill Serial #1229?

Open the chuck jaws and look down inside the chuck. You will see a screw head that is holding the chuck to the drill. Once you remove the screw, the chuck should pull off easily.

Want to Replace chuck Keyless chuck always loosens and bits fall out.

Inside the chuck barrel there is a screw which unscrews counter clockwise, then
the chuck itself should unscrew counter clockwise as well.

How can I replace the keyless chuck on my Dewalt DWD215G?

Open the chuck wide open. In the center is a retaining screw, they usually have left hand threads. Remove the screw. Take an allen wrench1/4" to 3/8" in size and fasten the short side tightly in the chuck. The chucks are usually right hand thread, so take a small hammer and strike the allen wrench to turn the chuck to the left to loosen it. Once you have the chuck off, verify the thread size of the drill motor shaft, then go to McMaster-Carr and choose the one you need.

I have a DeWalt DW 235G drill that needs a new chuck. How do I get the old one off. I took out the screw ...then what?

Put the small end of a 1/4" allen wrench in the chuck and close the chuck on the wrench the place the drill on your bench with chuck hanging over the edge and hit the allen wrench with a hammer and it will shock the chuck loose. Hold on to the other end of the drill when hitting allen wrench.Reverse for reassembly

Drill chuck swap

1. Turn the screw clockwise to take it out.
2. Then you needs 3/8 allen key & insert the short side of the allen key & tighten the chuck.
3. hold the drill at the edge of the table & wack the allen key
counter clockwise & do it again as needed.
4. dewalt keyless chuck will fit but you might add a washer to insure the chuck is not rubbing the clutch collar.
5. putting it back together the other way.
