Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I goofed. I took my 4805 apart to clean the dust and I damaged a plastic lense inside by the chemical on my cloth. It didn't destroy the lense but it removed a pink looking coating on the lense. I am not sure what this coating does but it doesn't seem to be as clear as before. Only I can notice the difference but I am very observant. The lense is clear and no scratches just missing that light pink coating. Can I get parts like that? Too expensive to send it in for repair!

Hi there

No unfortunately they won't sell that separatelly to the public. If you send it in for repair they WILL replace the lens and it WILL cost you a arm & a leg.

Sorry dude !

Most models are very similar. Here is a video of a similar repair. However, depending on your model it may be a bad DMD chip

Dust particles being projected onto screen with BENQ MP 525 projector

White spots on the screen are generally caused by a bad DMD chip.Multiple elements of the chip remain continuously on causing these spots.Solution is replacement of DMD chip.

My unit seems to work fine, except there is a dark shadow covering the right third of the projected image. Is this a sign that the bulb is going out?

this is the light tunnel needing to be adjusted or replaced because is has collasped due to the heat given off by the lamp during the life of the projector.

I've had my projector for years now and worked perfectly. But now, there's a shadow on the right side of the screen. I cleaned the lenses and there's still a shadow. With my observations, it looks like...

Remove the bulb, look for any obstructions or damage. If you see none. Replace the bulb, usually replacing the bulb also replaces the lens, the frame around the bulb, and other components all at once making it an easy one stop fix for most visual display problems.

My IN 72 picture is not as bright as it should be. I have a newer lamp and dont think that is the problem

reset the settings to factory default and check the colorwheel. if it is coated with dust, clean it very carefully with a dry microfiber cloth. if it doesn't come clean or it breaks, you can get the part from an infocus service center and replace it yourself or send it to one for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com

Bottom right corner has a tint projector bulb is good

the colorwheel is collapsing and needs replacing. it's under a metal brace between the colorwheel and the lens. it's a 4-sided mirror tube that is glued together, and the glue wears out after a while.

i am having the same problem and most people are telling me its a light tunnel problem with it being out of align. im still looking into how to fix that hope this might have atleast narrowed the problems down.

the light tunnel is the black tube like thing thats right beside the color wheel. about 2cm long and it has lenses inside of it.

Cleaning dust and dirt from the lens (inside)

Hi Nutty Prof

You will have to open up the unit by unscrewing the screws at the bottom and taking off the top cover of your PB6100.

Right behind the lens is the Lightengine ( where the dust collects )

Take off the cover of the Lightengine by unscrewing the two screws at the top of it . Then blow out the inside of the light engine with Air in a can ( available from most good PC shops )
and then reassemble.

If the dust particles still show after this ( which I doubt it will ) then you will have to take it to a Service Centre to get cleaned out as you will not be able to reassemble the lens once taken apart - it is a HUGE job !

Thanks for using Fixya and Good Luck !

Do you have the projector inside a hush box? If so, it could be too far back in the box. Readjust and see if that removes your shadow.
or
You may have a haze on your lenses. Have you tried cleaning your color wheel and associated lenses? This procedure is for the skilled since you must disassemble your projector. Keep in mind that the color wheel is VERY, VERY fragile. Use a lens cleaning agent or 91% isopropyl alcohol and q-tips. The agent must not leave a haze. Have plenty of time and patience since this may take you about an hour just to clean the color wheel. Did I mention that the color wheel is VERY fragile…
