Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

2 Answers

My 5150 would not start after the USB cable plugged to the front was kicked out. I suspect damaged to the starting panel. If that's the case would it work after replacing that front panel?

Tks have just tried but still cannot switch on. Have took the front panel out & tried to turn on from the black stick switch but still no reaction. Wonder if it's the mother board? Could mother board be damaged by kicking off cable from USB port?

The front panel's usb ports may have broke, Unplug them to test..

Open pc and look for the wires coming from the front panel,

follow the wires and look for the one that plugs into the front usb port, and unplug it from the mother board not the front panel,

If the pc starts then!! yes a new front panel will work 100% or just keep front usb's unpluged... if not it could be the mother board,

start unpluging ram cd/dvd hard drive and all cards keyboard and mouse..and retest,,, if you get no life, then its the mother board or cpu chip,, Yes kicking the usb out and having the system power off from it is not good!

Try disconecting that conector from the motherboard and restart. if it runs go from there.

Try disconnecting the switch/led connector from the mobo and. determine which wires go to the switch and touch the corresponding conector posts on the mobo with a penny. if it starts the switch *** can be replaced

Have a dell optiplex gx520. Little cousins broke the plastic part of the USB port in the front panel. So I disconnected the the front panel connector and then the computer turned on. It was turned off...

take a good look inside cause when you removed the front usb you probably removed the front panel buttons too ..Plug them back and will work ..
The fact that it worked is probably why you never seen it ..It does not need the button to be connected in order to work ..the start only kicks it on ..
If this button is damaged can go to bios and look if it has other alternatives fro starting ..(select to start on a set time ..or look if it is capable to start from the keyboard or on mouse double click ..some computers have this option ..for dell i think only to start on a certain hour it is available ..but if you damaged the front button is still an option can also make it sensitive on the ac power ..and if the button is damaged it will start when you plug it in the inlet ..
You may actually try this ..cause unless you plug the button back will not have a way to start it ..try to see if it is set to react on power ..just remove it from the back and place it back ...if you are lucky will start just like it restarts when there is a power fluctuation ..
if need either to reconnect the front panel ..or look on the manual ..and see teh exact pins for the start button ..and short them with a jumper untill it starts ..and make changes in bios ..and use teh keyboard or the mouse or the alarm start until you replace the button or the case...

Broken USB jack, no power.

1) Unplug the computer from power. Open the computer case.

2) TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case. (Not shouting)
This will relieve your body of Static electricity.

3) Unplug the front panel USB cable from the motherboard. (If there are two cables coming from the front panel, unplug them both)

4) Close the computer case.
Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of Five seconds. Let go of the button.
Do this procedure two more times. (Total of three times)

What you are doing is clearing any CMOS Error Codes, and setting BIOS Setup back to the factory default settings.

5) Plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute. Turn the computer on.
If the computer still doesn't start, the motherboard is fried.
(I believe the computer will work okay)

There is no Service Manual available. If you follow the cable/s from the front panel to the motherboard, you'll see where it/they connect.

It keeps flashing between flashing lights regards

The TV stays in standby because protection circuit kicked in.

Protection kicks in when an internal fault had been detected.

In your case the SCART cable may have caused a short.

When on protection the TV will stay in standby, will not respond to buttons or remote, and will not start up.
All higher voltages from PSU get shut down by controller board, and only the +5V remains on.

To attempt resetting the TV, disconnect all video cables, disconnect the power cord, wait about one hour and plug it back.

If TV does not restart, then there may be an internal fault.

In that case leave TV unplugged for longer, just in case.

If still no luck, then call Sony to discuss a repair. The number is listed on your owner manual.

If instead TV will restart, do not use the faulty video cable again, this can damage your TV.

Start up fault

I'm not an expert at this!!
I looked up Dell Tech Faults on another pc.
Disconnect power and press on button to discharge pc. Remove side panel. Remove all USB port cables including hubs. Remove memory from the CRIMMS. Reconnect memory. Reconnect usb's. Replace panel and power cord. You can always connect to Delle Tech Support - doesn't cost.

For some reason only known to anoraks or rocket scientists--- this works and pc is restored to former glory.

Hope this works for you too.

Dell Dimension 5150 starts up on its own!!

Check the power cable for some defect. It may have been twisted and the wires inside broken. Try using an alternate power cable and see how it goes.
