The printer says there is no cartridge in in, but there is and they are all full. I have tried to activate the cleaning but it just tells me there is no cartridge. It has been working fine and there is plenty of ink but...it suddenly comes up with this.

Unfortunately the DCP series are part of Brothers new POS technology range.

These often suffer two common problems.

1. Alignment issues.
The work a round is to turn off BiDirectional Printing.

2. The ink sensors fail.
The work around is to put tape over the bump in the ink cartridge.
This makes the printer think the cartridge is always full.
Be careful though not to let them run dry or you might clog the system or head.

Note: both issues can be repaired by a service center. But is this cheap unit really worth the cost? :(

OH, Forgot to mention there is a calibration feature in the printers console. Try running it a number of times as it seems to have a cumulative effect. But if this fails, just turn off bi-directional printing.

Do you use generic ink? If so use original brother ink due to diffrent chemical consistence.

Insert new orig. cart. make sure all carts are at full level:

press menu then start b/w copy then fourtimes arrow up.

machine will switch to maintenance mode ("!" will flash).

Use the arrow-up key to go to the digit and the set key to enter it:

press 7 then 6 then 4 then start b/w copy

machine will initiate the carts and do some power cleaning.

When ready press

7 then 6 then 3 then start b/w copy.

machine will run a power purge.

Press 9 then 9 to leave then maintenace mode.

Do run a test print.

If you still have absolutely no BK the head is clogged and needs relacing.

If you have some bk wait a day and repeat the power purge sequence twice.

If there is no effect ph needs replacement, too.

Just changed brand new black ink cartridge but printout for black is very faint even though the best print quality is chosen. All other coloured ink cartridges are more than half filled. Pls help.

You got it! Just take out the ink cartridges and take a cotton ball and dabble a small amount of alcohol on the ink outlets, then place back in and print right away, it is more than likely tha the port is dry. Please let me know if I can help further, a pleasure to help out! Guy

Hi, my Brother DCP-115C Brother printer keeps telling me my black ink is empty despite putting brand new cartridges in, can you offer any help. Thanks.

Black electrical tape is the answer and it’s because the tape is BLACK. Even if u put black tape on an empty cartage the printer will still try to print.

The tape goes on the side of the cartage that faces the back of the printer (where the sensor must be).

Seems to be a problem of your cartassy. The foil is damaged. The ink is inside the printer! So be careful. Try to open dcp: http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/inside.html#Brother_mfc215c Use pictures how to open cover. After that try this: http://www.fixya.com/support/t184082-brothers_mfc_210c_ink_tray_needed_pin
