Better plug it to another pc and observe if it would be recognized by the pc. well, sometimes, portable hard drives takes time to be detected by PC specially when it comes to age, better observe it for about 3-5 mins, and if its not detected, try to touch the usb cord of your portable hard drive connecting to your pc and make some adjustments to it.

How to piggyback a larger hard drive on my dell dimension e310 computer

I think you are talking about adding the 500GB Hard Drive to your system. It will give you more Disk Space, but not more memory. If you want to add the drive just Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Case then notice how the hard drive that is already on your system is in the drive bay and the cables going into it. There should be another empty bay above or below for you to place the 500GB Drive. There are also some extra cables that will plug into the drive. Once you have the drive in place and the two cables plugged into it, put the case back on then plug the power cord and plug it up.

Your system will recognize the hard drive once windows boots up. Click Start/My Computer and you should see your Local C Drive and the new 500GB Drive. If not, shut the down then restart it and notice what key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup and hit that key. Once you get into the setup look for the hard drives. You will probably see your old drive listed as Sata 0 or Sata 1. You want to take the next Sata that is available and set it to Auto so that it can automatically get your new drive's configuration. Once you do that, save it and exit out of the Bios then Reboot.

Once the system recognizes your new drive you can copy things from the old drive to it. You can't just copy programs, programs have to be installed to the new drive. But you can copy things like your documents, music, pictures and videos to free up space on your original drive. Also when you download and install things, it will default to going to drive c which is your old drive. You can change it to go to your new drive by just changing the letter c to whatever is assigned to your new drive. Most likely it will be drive d, but you can click Start/My Computer and see what the 500GB drive's letter is.

Maybe you friend had some cloning software where he could just clone your old drive onto your new 500GB Drive, then you could make the 500GB drive your Local C Drive by switching the cables.

WD3200JS Hard Drive - Hard Drive Problem Detected

Hello there and welcome to fixya
well it sounds like you have a couple of options here
First what i would do is to open the case on the computer then unplug everything from the mother board like the cd rom and any associated burners and the A drive if there is one
Now start up the computer and see if you can get it to go into bios
once in bios several things may happen you may get a error code about the drive or it may even say no drive found if so then you will have to go back into bios and change the way the computer boots to see if it will recognize the drive if it is now seeing it make sure it is set to the drive then pres the f10 key to save it then exit and restart now if the computer comes up and it is now running go ahead and plug in every thing then restart the computer and it should now be ok if not your drive may have to be removed and tried into a different computer and see if it can be recognized if it cant be recognized in a different computer then the drive is either bad or one of the jumpers may not be set right or may be loose this is very common on these drives ok
SO please try these simple things first then let me know how this works PLEASE LET ME KNOW
There is still a lot more we can to but i need you to try these things first ok
Best regards mike

My hp rz 1710 dont recognize sd card 4 gb

reasons for the problems u faced
1.system doesnot provide drive letter for ur sd card
solution:

1.Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK. 2. In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window will appear
3.On this disk management window, you can see some drives including the portable drive. Right click on your portable drive and click change drive letter and paths.
4. Now a assign a new drive letter which is not being used by any of your drives in My Computer.
5. After assigning the new drive letter your portable drive will show up in my computer with other drives
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
another way to solve

After plugging in the device. Go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus

controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove

the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again, i think this should solve the problem.

Dell Optiplex GX1 not recognizing all hard drives.

Hello,
If you connect the drives using one single ribbon cable with two connectors on it then you need to set the drives to Master/Slave using the jumpers on the drives. Master being your OS drive.
If you are running a very old Operating System, make sure it can support a 20GB drive.

I have plugged the USB lead into the pc processor for a recently purchased 160 GB portable hard drive but I don't know where to access it to save files to it. When I look in 'my computer' it isn't there. ...

Yaa, it should be in my computer.
  • Check out your portable HDD manual, How to use?
  • Check out if there is any power switch on your portable HDD. Some of external HDD have a switch.
  • If there is any one it must be in on position to use.

If any problem, Just Ask me...
Thanks
