My lenovo T400 will not shut down even when all applications are closed. I have to manually shut it down with the power button

Push and hold Power button, Unplug, remove battery. try to do this:
- remove the battery and charger (everything connected to the pc) then press the power button for 1 minute.. - plug back in the charger - after few secs try to turn it on

I see that you have a "z" light indicator on the system when powered ON but you see no video on the screen.

The "z" Indicator means that the system is turned ON and ready to use but is in standby mode.

To disable standby mode on your system simply press the FN button for about 5 seconds on the system make sure that the machine is turned ON, this will make you system go back to normal mode.

Note:
For additional info on the issue the system can be put to standby mode by holding down the FN+F4 for a second or two this will enable standby mode on your Thinpad T400 and to disable the standbymode press and hold down FN for 5 seconds.

The printscreen button should be the button directly to the right of the power button labelled "PrtSc"

Hi guest, try to turn off the pc by using the power button. Then remove the cables and battery on the laptop. Then push & hold the power button for 5 seconds. Reinsert the cables and battery then turn on the pc.

Check if you will be able to shut down your pc using the operating system..

Is the computer taking forever to shutdown in the blue screen or is it something else. Perhaps try closing the applications running with the system to help the process speed up and actually work without the usage of the power button.

Click on the Word Button in the Upper Left corner.
Click the Word Options button.
Select Advanced and scroll to the bottom.
Click the File Locations button.
Select Documents and click the Modify button.
Specify where you want to store your documents.

A video can be recorded using the webcam application sent with the computer. If you do not find it check it with the Lenovo technical support. You can also install thirdy party free software to record videos using the webcam. you can find a lot of free application online to do this.
