Logon Change

Enable Log-On Screen

Windows, by default, is set to show the Welcome screen during startup.

To enable the log-on screen to show, go to "Start" menu and select "Control Panel".

In the control panel, click on "User Accounts".

In the "User Accounts" dialog-box, click "Change the way users log on or off" and uncheck the "Welcome Screen" option.

Click "Apply Options" to save the changes.

Change Log-On Screen Background Color

To change the log-on screen background color, go to the "Start" menu and click on "Run".

In the run dialog-box, type "mspaint" as the name of the program to "Open".

Click on "OK". In the "Paint" window that opens, select "Colors" from the main menu and click on "Edit Colors". In the "Edit Colors" dialog-box, select "Define custom colors".

Here pick the color of your choice and note down the "Red", "Green" and "Blue" values.

Write down these values somewhere.

Click "Cancel" and close the paint window without saving. Now, go to the "Start" menu, click "Run" and enter "regedit" as the name of the program to "Open".

In the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\CONTROL PANEL\COLORS and double-click the "Background" string.

In the "Edit String" dialog-box that opens up, change the values in the "Value data" field to the red, green and blue color values that you wrote down (e.g. 75 78 173).

The default value will be 0 78 152. Enter the values in the correct red-green-blue order, separated by a space. Close the registry editor and log off to see the changes.

To put your favorite picture in the background of the log-on screen, click "Start", then "Run", and type in "regedit". In the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\CONTROL PANEL\DESKTOP and double-click the string "Wallpaper". In the "Edit String" dialog-box that opens up, enter the full path and filename of the image that you want to use as the background. The image must be in .bmp format. Click "OK" and close the registry editor. Log off to see the changes. hope this helps

How to Enable Tools -> Folder Options and Registry Editor in Windows

Many times Windows users face a common problem. The "Folder Options" in "Tools" menu is not visible. Even It can't be accessed from Control Panel. Also "Registry Editor" is disabled.

I CAN`T BURN DVD WITH MY NERO BECAUSE IT TELLS ME THAT:ERROR TO HL-DT-ST DVDRAMGSA T50N ATA Devise. What can i do?

Hi marymichael2,
I see that you are having issues burning using Nero.
First check if the setting of Nero is correct for the DVD drive open Nero then go to Extras click on Get system info for Nero to detect the system devices and windows info for proper compatibility and Burning Detection of the DVD drive.
If the error states that there is something wrong with your DVD driver then you can check to see if resetting your DVD drive can fix the issue you reset you DVD drive by going to the registry editor.
regardless of what OS you have the steps are the same.
  • Click on Start then Click all programs look for Accessories, then look for CMD or Command Prompt then click it to open the registry editor Tool.
  • Once you have the Registry Editor on the left hand side window look for HKEY LOCAL MACHINE click on the arrow on the left side of the Folder to show the submenu,
  • Then click on the arrow on the left of System
  • Then click on the arrow of CurrentControlSet
  • Then click on the arrow of Control
  • Then click on the arrow of Class
  • Now under Class will be a list of devices identified with Numeric ID's
  • Look for this first numbers {4D36E965 then click on it
  • On the right oane window it will show you info about your DVD drive, just look for UpperFilters and LowerFilters right click and delete both then close the registry editor
  • I suggest that you restart your computer and then try burning again
If the problem still occurs then most probably you can try reinstalling Nero, also make sure that there are no other burning software on your Computer that may cause confusion with the detection of the DVD drive.
Reinstalling windows can be done to fix the issue as well, but is the last option if all else fails.

I hope that this helps.
Thank you for choosing Fixya,

Enable the Registry Editor, Task Manager and Folder Options Disabled by Viru

Virus attack is common these days and we often come across the problems like Disabled Folder Options or like Task Manager and Regedit disabled by Administrator. These problems are nothing but virus activities. The virus has infected our system and stopping us from accessing these options.
23f407e.jpg
Pressing keys Ctrl+Alt+Del opens up a dialog saying that “Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator” whereas you are the Administrator yourself. It becomes very annoying when you think that you can fix this problem by going into the Registry Editor but it doesn’t show up. Even the Folder Options gets disabled.
This problem is generally caused by a virus named “Brontok” but don’t worry just use RRT (Remove Restrictions Tool) that can easily solve this problem. RRT is free and can successfully enable:
1. Folder Options
2. Regedit (Registry Editor)
3. Task Manager
4. Show Hidden Files option
The tool will come more useful if you use it in Safe Mode.
Download RRT

Cd player wont work on acer laptop

You can try this trick - It might work - But, only if this is the root cause of your problem:

Many third-party programs that control CD or DVD burning (as well as some player applications) install CD- or DVD-ROM filter device drivers into Windows. These filter drivers are meant to allow for low-level hooks into the hardware, to allow for functions such as packet writing (where a CD-R/W or DVD-/+RW can be written incrementally, like a hard disk).

How CD/DVD issues can occur

These filter drivers sometimes have problems that can cause the CD or DVD drive to stop working correctly. The device entry for the CD or DVD drive in the Device Manager may show up with an error descriptor that reads "The device could not start." Additionally, there may be an error message that reads "One of the filter drivers for this device is invalid." The devices themselves do not show up in Explorer. Error codes for the device include code 31, code 32, code 19 or code 39, and sometimes the even more ominous warning "Your registry might be corrupted" appears.

Fixing the CD/DVD problem simply involves deleting the filter entries for the third-party device drivers. These entries can sometimes become damaged (which is what produces the "corrupt registry" warning).

How to fix CD/DVD issues
First Backup the registry.

Step 1: Start Registry Editor
type "regedit" in the Start Run box.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry

1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
* If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
* If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the
LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
7. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The UpperFilters registry entry is removed.
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry

1. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click LowerFilters.

Note You might see a LowerFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click LowerFilters only.

If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
3. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
4. Exit Registry Editor.

Step 4: Restart your computer
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

Several of the products made by Roxio are infamous for causing this problem, although in fairness to the company the most recent versions of their Roxio CD/DVD writing software (6.2 and higher) do not have these problems. Users of 5.0 or 6.0 editions of the Easy CD & DVD Creator product, which has been bundled with many new PCs in the past, should upgrade to 6.2 or better. Other programs can also cause this problem, with the same solution.

Note that after you do this, you may lose functionality in the program that uses the filter drivers, which may need to be reinstalled..hope this will help you
