Question about HP Compaq Presario Media Center SR1750NX (EL445AA) PC Desktop

3 Answers

Usb hell! Here's the scenario: I decided to restore my PC to its factory conditions. I burnt the neccesary disks, I'm about halfway through when the computer tells me disk 2 is corrupted. So I order restore disks from Compaq, I restore my computer and everything is working better except, unbeknownst to me, the usb ports, photo card readers, and serial port no longer work. If I go under USB in the device manager apparently USB Mass Storage is missing. While I've been in device manager before, I have never looked under the properties of USB. I called Compaq and they said to restore it again. Which is fine except everything for my wife's business is on there now because that was like two weeks ago!! Not to mention I just reinstalle all my stuff. If anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi BlackLewis, try windows update before trying another re-install. Windows will see that you are missing drivers for some of your hardware. You'll have to check & add them to your download.
Also go to Compaq & install what your missing first from this link. Not much here.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1815877&lang=en

Than try going through this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00041380&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1815877&dlc=en&lang=en

You do not have to do a full system restore with the recovery CD's. You have the option to just re-install windows / repair.
Your personal data should still be intact.
You also have a DVD-RW writer in that Presario SR1750NX & can back up your personal data just in case.
The most likley folders to back up are:
User Name\My Documents
User Name\Favorites
User name\ Application Data\Identities
User name\ Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
User name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities
You can copy these floders back to a reinstalled OS.

You will still have to reinstall othe programs like printer software & your wife's business software & data.

Good Luck & Best Regards!

Have you tried the Compaq Application driver recovery?

Click on Start , All programs , and then Hewlett-Packard or Compaq .

NOTE: If the Hewlett-Packard or Compaq folder does not appear, skip to the next step.

Then, click on any of the folders below (just one of them will be available depending on the model of your computer):

  1. HP Pavilion PC Tools ,

  • Compaq Presario PC Tools ,
  • PC Help and Tools , or
  • PC Recovery Tools .
  1. Click HP or Compaq Application Recovery .
  2. Select Driver Installation and click Next .
Select which drivers are to be installed, If you don't have this console go to windows update to see if microsoft can auto update for you,

HOW CAN I RESET THE HP OMNI 100 BACK TO ITS FACTORY SETTINGS

You will have to get a factory restore disk and if you already have one place in the DVD or CD tray and start the computer follow the on screen instructions to restore the computer back to its original condition. Some PC's have a separate restore partition on the C:\ drive you can go to my computer and tick to open go to C:\ and see if there is a partition for this. It should say recovery or restore. If you do not have this option you may order one from the factory or go to their web site and download a copy of the original software. NOTE: people when you buy a computer and have this option to download restore disk by all means do so right away. Also store you factory disks where you will find them if ever needed.

How can i perform a factory restore on my emachine w3619 without my start up disk..my computer will not load my sims 3 game and it used to be able to i tried everything (including system restore) to fix it

ask emachines for duplicate dvds of your startup disks.
your os is Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic
any copy of that would work, but you wouldn't have the cyberlink or other software

before doing that
you may first try checking for viruses or startup programs
and then reinstalling any game software

maybe your sims is broken. verify that it works on another machine

SYSTEM RESTORE

You need restore disks or an opperating system to restore any computer to factory condition. Simply put the disk 1 in your dvd/cd drive and go from there. It usually takes 45-60 minutes to do this.

IF you don't have restore disks you can make them on your system (if its running) or you can call the manufacturer and they will send you them for a small fee.

Factory restore

Who made the PC and what year?

For example the new dell systems I think everyone made after 2005, has a feature where on startup you press and hld the "F11" and it will restore an image of factory settings without the need of a disk.

If your doesn't offer this, you'll need an operating system disk, you can buy these, once bought you boot from it, we can explain how later, then basically delete the partitions and install XP or whatever operating system you decide to buy on your PC.

Before you do any of this, I would recommend buying an USB drive, or DVD RW or CD RW disk and backing up your data, I like USB cause you don't need a DVD writer, or anything like that.

Good luck!
