Dell Latitude C610 Laptop won't turn on

My laptop won't turn on. This is with a fully charged battery and/or the power adaptor. When I press the power button all of the lights (3) come on as do the lights on the right hand side (3 if I'm using the power adaptor) but they only remain on for about 3 seconds. The hard drive doesn't seem to be booting up nor does the fan turn on.

I've replaced the hybrid cooling fan and it still comes on and stays on for 3 seconds before powering off.

HELP!!!

I can't get to the bios since it only stays on 3 seconds after I try to turn it on. I believe if it was a hard drive issue the computer would go through its power on self test and come back to say theres a hard drive problem...perhaps the heatsink fan

    ok...well I'll try the fan first...then the hhd...and I'll keep ya posted :)

Had the same problem, c610 lights for a few then powers off, it turned out to be the processor. I found out that it could also be one of the many little switches on the board that work with the processor. Replacing the processor fixed mine. I'd start there.

I've been bummed with this laptop.

same thing happens to me - except all my lights come on for a split second then only the power light stays on underneath the monitor - which is black - and nothing else shows any sign of being turned on.

also..
the f, z, n, and some other key are broken.
well - they work, but only after several hard hits.

Could it be your hard drive...... and have you tried getting into the bios at all.... if you can get into your bios, change your boot order to cd drive first, install your os disk and try doing a repair . if that dont work try a new hard drive.

SOURCE: Dell Latitude C610 Laptop won't turn on

If the light comes on for three seconds and then go out ,generally means a power distrubution problem . remove the optical drive and memory from the system and try powering it on. If u get the same result , its time to take it to service tech , as your motherboard needs to be checked

Just want to know how to tell if a Dell Latitude C610 battery is dead

Hello,

With dell laptops, there should be buttons near the led lights.

Check the battery charge by pressing the status button or image on the battery near the LED's.
Note: The lights indicate the current amount of charge on the battery. If all the LED's come on when you press the button, the battery is fully charged. If fewer lights are lit, then the battery is partially charged. If any lights flash, or blink, there could be a problem with the battery.

Hope this helps...

Dell laptop wont turn on. battery only works if it is already charged and it doesn't run on A/C power.

It means that is something wrong, most surely with te AC/DC adaptor. Try with other compatible adaptor or take the laptop to service.

Won't turn on. Battery is plugged in and lit. n

Try removing your battery pack. Then connect the power adaptor (even without the battery) and connect is directly to the power outlet. If it powers up, then the battery pack might be defective or totally drained.

If the battery is just totally drained, simply place the battery to the laptop. Do not turn the laptop on. Plug the power adaptor to the laptop and plug it to the power source. If you see that the charging LED is blinking in your laptop, then just leave it charging up to 5 to 8 hours.

Never use a laptop on battery mode while it is plugged in to a power source. This is the number 1 reason why laptop batteries don't last longer.

BATTERY WON´T CHARGE ON DELL C600

It is possible the battery where the contacts from the laptop fit into or the gold colored contacts themselves need to be repaired. Worst case, the spill short circuited the contacts on the board, in which case you will have to replace the board. I would suggest really cleaning the gold contacts on the laptop and the small slots on the battery itself with a Q-tip with a little bit of rubbing alcohol on it. Please make sure both areas are totally dry before reassembling the battery.

Good Luck,

What should I do if my Dell Latitude Tablet won't charge? It was charging the other day. I turned it off. When I turned it on again, it says its on AC power, but the battery is not charging at all. It has...

try unplugging the laptop.... turn the power off... take the battery out ... insert the battery ... turn the laptop back on and plug it in.... make sure you have the battery snug... If this doesn't work you can take the battery into a battery plus store for testing ... it might be that your battery is shot... these things happen

We unplug the computer and it goes out does not

1. boot on bios (turn on laptop keep tapping F2, check the bios version and check the battery health and battery info)
2. if the battery is charge like 10% then battery info says batt performing normally then update the bios, download the latest bios from the dell support site.
3. if battery is 0% charge check if the ac adapter has correct watt display on the bios under battery info, make sure ac adapter is 65W above. if all fails then replace the battery.

BATTERY PROBLEMS?

Hi

Latitude D620 battery module has a battery charge tester. First remove the battery or turn the laptop over and press the battery icon and the note the battery LED indication.

If there is no LEDs lite, shut down the laptop, connected the power Adaptor, install the battery and check if the battery charge LED lites up.

If it doesn't double check the power Adaptor. Latitude D620 is rated to use a 90W Adaptor. There is a 60W Adaptor (looks very similar to) but this is for other Latitudes and AMD Vostro systems.

If the Adaptor has the correct rating, then check below for more info;

1) [Very Likely] The battery may be faulty or end-of-life and needs replacing. Check the battery connector on the Latitude and battery itself for any broken or bent pins or bits.

2) [Possible] You have the wrong power Adaptor or the Adaptor is faulty. This however would not explain why the battery is undetected.

Start up the Latitude into System BIOS (F2). Under System > Battery information check the battery and AC Adaptor status

If the Latitude D620 has warranty you may open a warranty claim with Dell Support.
