Question about Transcend TS AKT4/A Motherboard

1 Answer

Transcend TS-AKT/B This board has jumper jp7 at end of memory slots. There is no referance as to what this jumper does. Also the system locks up randomly. It will even lock up when in BIOS. It is completely random, no pattern. Any ideas? I would like to get updated bios for this /B board. It's running a 950 mhz Duron.

BIOS available here:

I couldn't locate iny info on jumper JP7. If it's not listed on the documentation it's a safe bet that you'd be best leaving it well alone.

Hope this helps,

erch.

And yes, it's a truly horrible site to use.

Replacing a defunct AC97 Audio devise card with PCI sound card. Told to disable onboard audio with jumper. cannot find manual to locate JP7 devise looking for mainboard manual.

The manual can be found here.

Normally, the onboard audio is disabled through the BIOS settings.

Check your "integrated Peripherals" tab in the BIOS for your on-board audio device settings.

I did not see anything about JP7 when I skimmed the maual.

When powering on gives 3 beeps and nothing else happens

Three beeps usually indicates a memory problem. Try removing the memory and booting with only one in at a time.

If you have encounter this kind of trouble this is a RAM problem which is beeping. B

Beep code pattern on a PhoenixBIOS system means that there has been an issue while testing the DRAM refresh. This could be a problem with the system memory, an expansion card, or the motherboard.

Random Access Memory (RAM) is the "working memory" in a computer. Additional RAM allows a computer to work with more information at the same time which can have a dramatic effect on total system performance.

RAM is typically referred to simply as "memory" even though other types of memory may exist inside a computer.

At this time you need to check the memory. Remove the memory and turn it on identify in there is sound provided.

Memory is installed in the memory module slots located in the motherboard. These slots are easily locatable by looking for the small hinges on either side that lock the memory in place. Certain sizes of modules may need to be installed in certain slots so always check with your motherboard manufacturer before purchase or installation.

Presario won't recognize second 256 RAM

Remove the original module, install just the new one and then start your computer. If it doesn't start, the memory you bought is bad. The system boards used in the Compaqs will auto-detect memory, and there are no jumpers or BIOS settings needed.

Memory Upgrade - from 256DDR1 to 1GB DDR1

sysa007,
EliteGroup makes two mother boards, P4VMM2, (No Revisions) & (P4VMM2 revision 8.1). Since your question states your memory is 184 pin DIMM your board must be, v 8.1. What does not make sense is the motherboard has two memory slots total.
(If you have 4 memory slots on the MB than the MB can not be the P4VMM2). Below is the link for the P4VMM2 (v8.1).
http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&TypeID=1&DetailID=436&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=45&LanID=9

The P4VMM2 v 8.1 can only use, two Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM memory modules. These sockets support up to 1GB system memory using 184-pin unbuffered non-ECC PC2100 or PC1600 DDR DIMMs. The two DIMMS you are using must run at the same speed.
Example PC2100 266MHz. OR PC1600 266MHz.
Continuous beeping means the memory is not seated correctly.
When using only one DIMM it should be inserted in the slot closest to the CPU. Re-check your memory. Remove & reseat. Make sure the latches snap closed on each stick of memory while inserting. Below is all of ECS P4VMM motherboards;
http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/SearchResult.aspx?q=P4VMM2&f=Products&MenuID=104&LanID=9

Good luck sysa007!

RE: mother board not going on

Hi marlonvig, what type of memory (PC3200? or PC2700) memory are you using? What type in which slot?

The decription (In you're manual), refering to you're memory can be confusing.
You're manual says you can use up to 1GB of
PC3200 DDR400MHz only in Slot 1.
If you add DDR400MHz into slot 2. The board will not support it. (weird)!
If you want to reach 2GB of memory. You must use PC2700 (DDR333)MHz. 2x1GB PC2700 = 1GB DIMMS in both DIMM 1 & 2. You're board does not support DDR2 type memory.

Need you're manual? Download it from this link. Click on it.

Asrock's home page for you're 775VM800 board.

CHANGING CPU'S TYPES AND SPEEDS

On these old motherboard there is usually one switch that is used to change the CPU type - from Slot to Socket, in this case. But there are usually a different set of jumpers that control the CPU speed. And usually another set to control the bus speed, assuming it supports more than one. In this case it might support 100 or 133, depending on the CPU.

In some cases, you can set the jumpers to "AUTO", which automatically selects the bus and CPU speed. This was only available on the higher end, newer and more expensive boards.

U cannot use 2 identical DIMMs of RAM Memory, find two same and faster, couse 233 or 300 is too slow for nForce3 motherboard.
