Question about RCA 27V520T 27" TV

1 Answer

27V412T turns self off

Set will power on, work fine for a random amount of time from a few seconds to a few minutes. Screen shrinks to top of screen usually, turns to a rainbow pattern, not the typical test pattern, then powers off. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply, I will investigate further and hopefully this will fix the problem.

Same TV set, probably the same problem...

I actually saw this set on the sidewalk near the dumpster for the apartment across the street from my house. Thinking they probably would have just dumped it if it were complete trash, I carried it into my yard and plugged it into an extension cord. Result: the set turned itself on upon being plugged in... and displayed only a half-inch vertical white stripe until it turned itself off about 5 seconds later. I turned it on twice more... and each time it powers down after about 5 seconds. Then I figured it was google time, and here I am!

I'm an engineering MS, and would love to just try fixing it myself if any expert could be of a little guidance. Thanks!

    Jason

You have a bad vertical deflection IC and/or bad capacitors in the vertical circuit. The parts are inexpensive and can easily be replace by a service technitian.

Will not always power up, just clicks and power light flashes. Vertical retrace lines at top 2" of screen. Keeps shrinking and goes completely away after about 5 minutes.

The JVC sets are well known for this type of problem, the tv has a vertical deflection issue needs a few small parts and a touch up on the vertical ic, causes the set to shutdown. I recommend a tv technician for the repair.

Philips/Magnavox TV, model MS3250C321 shuts off randomly.

TV shutting off automatically means its a problem with the Lamp. Contact Pioneer or any local tech shop or Best buy and get the same replaced.
Turning off after specific time : Go to the timer option and disable the Automatically Switch off option. This will resolve the issue. Please let me know if it worked. If you need the user manual or instruction manula please click on the link below

After a few minutes picture shrinks to single line on screen and then powers off

Since the set works initially, there are likely poor solder connections at the vertical IC. If this is not addressed soon, the IC will fail and need to be replaced. The vertical IC is a small flat IC with about 11 pins or so that may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Try resoldering the pins first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace teh IC. Feel free to post the marking here so I can verify you have the correct one.

Black screen and no sound

I realized that there is a 90 day warrantee on parts and a 30 day limited warrantee on labor for the  repairs that were done. As I stated, the original problem was the picture shrinking after a few minutes of the set being on. The repair firm took my control board with them. When they came back to install the repaired control board in my set there was a load spark during the installation, after which I had a black screen and no sound.  The repair firm took my set them and installed a "CAP Kit", a STRM6511, and a "D1881". The set worked perfectly until two days ago.
I called the repair firm an they are coming out this Thursday to check out my TV.   I am hoping the problem is related to the failure of one of the parts installed to fix a similar problem which occurred after the sparking incident.

SCREEN GOES BLACK AFTER 1 MINUTE

In electronics dust has nothing to do. cleaning will not solve your problem your problem is due to trouble in vertical section. mostly it is due to electrolytic capacitor in vertical section is defective.it is common problem. also check supply to vertical section. "THE SCREEN SHRINKS TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE SCREEN FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE THE PICTURE TURNS UPSIDEDOWN THEN TURNS BLACK." is called fold over. regards thanks
