Taillights work as do the blinkers and hazards, just brake lights not working when I press the brakes, checked (good) and changed the fuse just to be sure and problem still there. thanks for any info.
I will check in the am, i've come across two different locations for this switch some are saying it's located at the brake pad under the dash, I also found it saying it's located in the steering column. any idea where I should be looking? also, NHTSA says this problem is listed as a recall but buick.com doesnt list it. wish I could find out if it has already been repaired and would the recall still be available to me if it wasnt?I will check in the am, i've come across two different locations for this switch some are saying it's located at the brake pad under the dash, I also found it saying it's located in the steering column. any idea where I should be looking? also, NHTSA says this problem is listed as a recall but buick.com doesnt list it. wish I could find out if it has already been repaired and would the recall still be available to me if it wasnt?

Hi Mary ANN , need some clarification ,the fuse's for all these thing's you have listed , the tail lights, hazard, headlights, blinkers, cruise, brake lights, coolant fans are good ? If good what makes you think you have a short ? Explain ! Are these thing's not working ? That wouldn't mean you have a short . You could have a bad ignition switch !
Lets start at the beginning. The turn signals and brake lights use different fuses but both go thru the turn signal switch and use the same bulbs. Have you checked the fuses for each circuit and does each switch have power in and out ?
I am unaware of what a "CO" display is.
Now with the blinkers, hazard, horn and brake lights not working that may be the multi funtion switch (blinker switch) that is located inside the column (where the blinker lever attaches).
Obviously the blinker, hazard and horn will all work off of something in the column. Brake lights, you may think a switch on the pedal.
the brake lights do work with that switch but when you have the kind of tail lights where a turn signal light shares the same bulb as a brake light, the brake light is cancelled for the turn signal by running through the multi function switch inside the column.
The third brake light does not blink so its not on that same circuit.
Check the fuses. And check for power at the taillights (These taillights have circuit boards on the back side that can go bad.) I don't think the hazard switch is it because the brakes would still work. Also check the brake pedal switch. There is a hazard flasher, does the hazards work?
if your fuse is good. and you have power at the brake light switch and when you hit the brakes you have power coming out the otherside of brake light switch/which would be the white wire/ check that the white wire is sending power up the turn signal switch. if theres power there and your turnsignals work? im afraid that your turnsignal switch is bad rare but it has been known to happen.
on the brake peddle there is a switch when you press the brake peddle..check to see if after you press the peddle it should activate..it could be stuck or out of place...you may need to get a new one..
the blinker you will have to purchase a blinker relay...ask any part store for it...
