I think you will find that the VCR has gone out of sequence. The VCR thinks it is in a loaded state and not in the ejected state of play. The cause of it could be complex or simple. However the most likely cause is a faulty mode switch. It will need to be replaced and that is not often easy. The mode switch will have to be in a certain position, to ensure the correct sequence again. VCR's have different set up positions. Some for example have to be set up as if the tape was loaded up. You will need a service manual for this for certain. This is due to the need to get various parts in the right order. Otherwise you will never get it to operate in the right way.
I should point out though mode switches do wear out, it may not be the sole cause, as all you need is one broken cog or broken part and the whole mechanism will go out of sequence.
There is also the microproccessor chip that works out what mode the VCR is in, from the signals it gets from the mode switch. It is rare for these to go, but they can go wrong.
I would like to stress again, without the service manual you haven't a hope of setting the VCR up.

Vcr hi-fi light blinking

You just have a dirty main video head. You can get a head cleaner tape or you can buy a tin of Servisol Video 40.
To clean with the Servisol, remove the top cover of the VCR. You will see a big shiny video head. Spray that head with the cleaner. You can also wipe it over with a cotton bud if it is very dirty. It's a good idea to clean all the surfaces that the video tape touches. If you don't know which, when you first take off the cover with the VCR on power, put a video tape in a press play then watch where the tape runs. Eject the tape, then clean with the spray and a cotton bud. You can even spray the cotton bud and then clean with that if you are not happy just spraying into the unit.
Make certain that the sprayed areas are dry before trying a video. It dries very quick anyway.

VHS Stuck; Cover is off; nothing moves...wheels, tape...nothing...help

Unplug the unit, then plug it back in WHILE holding down the EJECT button ... The tape should come out unless there is a belt broken, missing, or loose.

I have used old, inoperable VCR's for tuners only as well. What happens if you leave the tape in all the time? Does the tuner work like that?

CANT PUT IN TAPES

I assume you mean when there's no tape in? This sounds like a possible mode switch problem. This device tells the electronics of the VCR which position ie: play/fast forward/eject etc - the mechanics of the machine is in. However it's only a complex switch and contacts wear or get dirty, so the whole thing goes wrong! What you need to do is find this part (I will post two images of what it might look like) and spray it with Servisol Video 40. This will get rid of dirt. It won't do anything about wear though. In which case it will need to be replaced. However you will need a service manual if that is the case. As you will never be able to set it up right. There's one more thing to add about the mode switch, it can go wrong if something has broken and the mechanism is out of sync. In which case it will be working, just in the wrong start position.

Wont play tapes

there is a detector inside the machine the makes sure the tape is actually moving from the payoff reel to the takeup real .. if it detects that isnt happening then it shuts down rather than spool tons of tape all over the inside of the machine .. if more than one tape is doing the same thing then your vcr needs service ...often the problem is a rubber wheel that loses traction .. it can be replace or cleaned but dont use alcohol .. that will remove the elastomer in the rubber wheel .. you can use just water or special solvent made for cleaning idler wheels ... even if the unit is new its likely to have been in stock for a long time .. the surface of the wheel can oxidize or sometimes the wheels get hard with age ... if its just surface contamination, you can use a pencil eraser to clean it .. this involves taking the bottom of the player off to get at the wheel ... if the unit is still in warranty then i would return it .. often professional repairs are more than the VCR costs new ..

I think the problem with the tapes stopping is that there is too much tension on the tape. Try another VCR and try to see if you have the same problem playing the tape. Forward and reverse through the part that causes the player to stop. It is also possible that the tape inside the vcr has become twisted or stuck. One can fix this if they are very careful opening the video tape. However, I would not recommend this for most people

VCR

you have probably bent the tab that holds the tape end sensor or its light. The tapes have a clear section at the end of the tape and the light shines through to the sensor to tell the unit that the tape is finished. The light should not pass through the recordable part of the tapes. If anything is bent the light may shine on the sensor and tell the unit you're at the end of the tape and to shut off. Some units have a tape tension sensor also that tells the unit that the tape is broken and to shut off. Only way to know is to remove power and take it apart and look for anything that may be bent. Stay away from the rotating head assembly and the posts that the tap travels on. Do not apply power with the unit open. Do not load a tape and remove power as some units freeze in the loaded position and will not load new tapes unless manually placed back in the unloaded position.
