Be sure your laptop's wireless option is set to ON.. if this isn't helpful, goto your internet options, then right click on the connection and do a repair on it.. if you do not see any wireless connection option, your wireless card isn't showing up then..

be sure on your desktop that you have all the wireless options setup correctly..

has your laptop been on a wireless network from your place before? let me know if any of this helps.. unfortunately, the cable company only supports up to a router, sometimes they will help with the router part.. let me know if i can help anymore..
thx, d

Perform a factory reset and reconfigure the modem. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the router.
With a bent paper clip, press and hold the red reset button on the rear of the router through the small hole indicated. Reconnect the power cable with the button still pressed. Keep the button pressed for 5 to 10 seconds. Connect to the router using your wired computer (desktop) via a web browser. Type the following address: 192.168.1.1 Login using username: Admin Password is either admin, linksys, or does not have a password. Setup your DSL Login information (uses PPPoE with Dynamic IP Address). Enter your ISP login ID and password. You may be required to specify the login ID as the full e-mail address ie: b1w045562@myisp.com. Configure the wireless protection feature as WPA2 with AES encryption (shared-key) for best security. Also choose a strong password, 8 characters in length minimum and containing numbers, letters (uppercase and/or lower case) in the password. Passwords are case sensitive. Also be sure to change the default SSID from Linksys to something identifyable, but without using personal information.

The router has been reset by mistake and I don't know how to get my connection back for laptops. I currently have the dsl modem connected straight to the house computer. How do I get my router working...

Most DSL modems have their internal network set at 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0
which is the same address space by default in your Linksys Router... more or less the routers IP is 192.168.1.1 and the default IP of the DSL gateway is 192.168.1.1 ... following steps to fix...

hardwire a PC to the Linksys router navagate to the webpage at http://192.168.1.1 (default username *BLANK* password: admin)

first setup all wireless options SSID: (choose something other than the default "linksys" so you can tell it from all the other linksys default systems in the world), WPA/WPA2 Encryption (so only people you know can get on)

after you set all that up then go back to the basic lan setup and change the address space from 192.168.1.1 to something else (e.g. 192.168.10.1, 192.168.21.1, or so fore)

Desk top/ethernet to linksys router not recognizing.

First connect that desktop to linksys with ethernet cable.
then set ip property to network adapter .
Set ip address ,subnet mask and gateway ip to ip property.
Set ip address as the ip of network like if router ip is 192.168.1.1 so set ip like 192.168.1.15
set subnet mask as same as your other computer.
Set default gatway ip as your router ip.
Then you can connect internet.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

Thanks.

Linksys rouder suddenly stoped alowing other computers net access

I would recommend upgrading the router firmware, if you have not done this already.

Download the firmware file from the Linksys website:
http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/

Typically, the upgrade is done by pointing your web browser at the IP address of the Linksys router. Linksys should provide specific instructions at the site above.

Loss of internet connection when going through router

Your laptop seems to be hooked to your neighbours unsecured network automatically and it is going online with that. About comcast, when you connect a router to the modem or a computer to the modem, the modem has to be rebooted to give a valid IP to the connected device. If the modem is not rebooted the computer or the router will get 192.168.x.x IP address which is called private IP address.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.
