It appears that the 2001 mitsubishi diamante is an interference engine, so it is possible that you have damaged your valves. Have it inspected by a mechanic before operating the starter.
Pull out cup holder, remove two screws holding in faceplate, then pop it off. Screws for radio are how visible, remove them and slide the radio out! If you leave it out for more than an hour, you will need 'code' to reset it. (antitheft)
fi you bend the dipstick and the aircond pipe carfully away from the altenator and remove the washer bottle, that is enough room to get them out of the engine bay
Has this symptom occured several times or just a one off? If the trans works OK I wouldn't mess with it.You know what they say about sleeping dogs! I think Mitsis are not that strong in the auto trans department
