There are different ways to adjust the ringer and speaker volume on your handset. Please see your owners manual for model specific instructions.
On most single handset units:
Ringer volume: Press the volume up or down arrow rapidly to change the ringer volume.
Speaker volume: When talking on the handset press the volume up and down arrow to increase or decrease the volume.
On other models:
Ringer volume
In standby mode, press the volume up key or volume
down key on the handset or base to select one of three
ringer volume (Off, Low, or High).

Earpiece and Speaker Volume
You can select from among of six volume levels on the
handset, and ten levels on the base. Pressing the
volume up key or volume down key on the handset or
base during a call will change the earpiece or speaker
volume. This setting will remain in effect after the
telephone call has ended.
If you press the volume up key when the earpiece is at
the maximum volume level, an error tone sounds.
The error tone also sounds if you press the volume down key at the lowest volume.

After replacing the toner cartaridge, the error light comes on. In the little box, it says toner is not set. Insert toner. I have readjusted it several times. It seems to be set solidly. The problem...

You have to:
1. take paper out.
2. remove the toner
3. place the toner back
4. printer will "initialize" itself.
5. put the paper back.

Totally crazy!!!

Default volume too high

You can download the manual from the link below: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/tx-ds787_manual_e.pdf c. Power On Volume This sets a designated volume setting for the TX-DS787 to be set every time that the power is turned on. This prevents the TXDS787 from being turned on while it is set to an extremely high volume and suddenly output very loud sounds. For the absolute volume display method, this can be set between min and max. For the relative volume display method, this can be set between ?? and 18 decibels. If you do not mind having the TX-DS787 turned on with its current volume setting, set this to "Last." Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

DSL (PPPoE) connection?

Make sure you disable or uninstall any PPPoE software such as WinPoet, Broadjump, or Enternet 300 from your computer or you will not be able to connect to the Internet. Do not disable until you´ve downloaded the firmware in Step 1. Please make sure that your modem is not also a router. If it is or you do not know, please contact your ISP and change the modem to Bridge mode. Note: In some areas, BellSouth and Verizon may not use PPPoE. Step 1 Upgrade to the latest firmware. Step 2 Take a paperclip and perform a hard reset. With unit on, use a paperclip and hold down the reset button on the back of the unit for 10 seconds. Release it and the router will recycle, the lights will blink, and then stabilize. Step 3 After the router stabilizes, open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc), enter 192.168.0.1 into the address window, and hit the Enter key. When the password dialog box appears, enter the username admin and leave the password blank. Click OK. If the password dialog box does not come up repeat Step 2. Note: Do not run Wizard. Step 4 Click on the WAN tab on left-hand side of the screen. Select PPPoE. Step 5 Select Dynamic PPPoE (unless your ISP supplied you with a static IP address). Step 6 For Earthlink users, under the username field enter ELN/username@earthlink.net and your password, where username is your own username (some Earthlink users may not need the ELN/ in front of username). For SBC Global users, enter username@sbcglobal.net. For Ameritech users, enter username@ameritech.net. For BellSouth users, enter username@bellsouth.net.** For most other ISPs, enter username. **Note: In some areas, BellSouth may not use PPPoE. Ameritech users: If you cannot connect, try entering just the username (without the @ameritech.com) and then put ameritech.net in the Service Name box. Step 7 Maximum Idle Time should be set to zero. Set MTU to 1492, unless specified by your ISP, and set Autoreconnect to Enabled. Note: If you experience problems accessing certain websites and/or email issues, please set the MTU to a lower number such as 1472, 1452, etc. Contact your ISP for more information and the proper MTU setting for your connection. Step 8 Click Apply. When prompted, click Continue. Once the screen refreshes, unplug the power to the D-Link router. Step 9 Turn off your DSL modem for 2-3 minutes. Turn back on. Once the modem has established a link to your ISP, plug the power back into the D-Link router. Wait about 30 seconds and log back into the router. Step 10 Click on the Status tab in the web configuration where you can view the device info. Under WAN, click Connect. Click Continue when prompted. You should now see that the device info will show an IP address, verifying that the device has connected to a server and has been assigned an IP address.
