1. you can download the bios update from the site http:support.dell.com
2. select the support for users
3. click on drivers and downloads
4. enter your service tag (service tag can be found underneath the laptop which is in a sticker)
5. after you enter the tag you click on go then it will list down the drivers and updates. try scrolling down look for bios then download via browser then select a location where to save the file. After the download double-clicked or right click on the file then run as administrator. (before flashing the bios make sure ac adapter and battery are plug-in and battery should be at least 10%) in case battery is no longer charging but laptop is working fine with ac adapter battery needs replacement. if the error message says ac adapter is not determine then just update the bios.

Problem of charging the battery

Check battery indicator. If OK, update BIOS. If no change, check battery bios info, if AC Adapter is incorrect, replaces it. Please comment if the information provided has been helpful for the improvement of my support assistance. Thank you and regards.

Dell E1705 will not charge aftermarket battery. Is there any work around. AC adapter is ok.

Hi there!

Try to check a few things first.

Go to the BIOS set up, which you can access by pressing f2 when you start up the computer,
Then go to the option that says battery info,
Check if the ac adapter is detected,
And check if the battery is detected,

If any of this things is not detected
Then try this things,
If in the ac adapter it says unknown,
boot to your windows normally
then make sure you still have at least
12% on the battery charge.
Then download the latest flash BIOS
update your BIOS then after you update it,
it should fix your not charging issue and fix the unknown ac adapter if ever that's the case,
But after you do that and the same thing happens,
You'll need to replace the motherboard of that computer.

Hope this helps!

Dell insprion laptop not charging the battery, showing IDLE when charger is connected to it, my charger is showing idle even in bios setting what is the problem

remove battery.
connect ac adapter.
make sure ac adapter led is on.
connect ac adapter to laptop.
check if ac adapter led still on after connection laptop.
turn on laptop then check bios if ac adapter is determined.
check bios as well if it is updated. if not then download the latest bios update from dell support site.
after updating bios charge the batt while laptop is not use. check if changes will happen on the number of charge. make sure you check the charge in bios not in windows.
if charge in bios made changes while on windows still says idle and not charging then reinstall the OS.
if all fails no changes in charge % batt then have the batt replaced.

Not charging

which green light?

light from the ac power adapter or the light from the battery?

if ac power adapter you are referring to try a diff power wall socket if ac power adapter still off then replace ac power adapter alone.

if battery light is off but the laptop works fine with ac adapter alone try updating the laptop BIOS.

if ac adapter light turns off when it plug to the laptop replace motherboard.

Battery is not charging properly ....?

Have you checked the bios battery status and bios version? first check if battery has charge if yes then update the bios. also try to remove batt and use ac adapter alone and check if laptop has sufficient power. try connecting ac adapter to a diff wall socket. if laptop works fine with ac adapter alone then batt might has problem.

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

Will not run on ac adapt. only battery and will not charge

Check by connecting the adapter to another plug point.

Please check the light on the AC adapter. If there is no light then it is better to replace the AC adapter.
Check the laptop with another AC adapter of the same type. if the laptop works fine with the other AC adapter then replace the adapter

If the light on the AC adapter is on visit the manufacturer's website and try to update the BIOS. If this does not work. check by juggling the connector at the laptop's end. If the laptop charges intermittently or if there is no signs of charging, it is advisable to contact the manufacturer for having the motherboard checked.

Battery not charging

this is usually an adapter, battery or mobo failure. Since the same adapter fails, that leaves the battery and motherboard. power on the system without the battery to confirm if the adapter still works. if AC works, try another battery and see if this works. If yes, the battery needs to be replaced. contact dell and check if a replacement is possible if your battery is still within warranty. I beleive dell only warrants battery of laptop for a year from the date your system was originally purchased.

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4048 problem with AC Adapter When I turn the laptop on with the AC adapter, after checking the BIOS freezes and does not boot Windows. If I turn the laptop in only with battery boot...

There's not much you can do. The problem is definately with your motherboard. I'd recommend a bios update, but normally you can ONLY run a bios update if the battery and the ac are both plugged in.

This problem is pretty common among Toshiba's A105 and P105 models.

Besides replacing the motherboard there's not much you can do.

Sorry.
