Whirlpool water dispenser not working model ED25RFW00
The ice maker works and dispenses, but the water side won't dispense water. I hooked a pigtail to the water valve at the back of the fridge, which makes water shoot out without hitting the lever, so I figured the valve is good. I replaced the switch on the front for the water side, but that didn't fix the problem. What could the problem be??? Thanks!

It is possible that you have an airlock in the chilled water section but not very likely. I would be more inclined to suspect that the water storage section in the fridge compartment (below salad section) has become frozen as I have experienced this before. I would suggest defrosting the cabinet completely and trying again, ensuring that you push the water valve for a long enough duration. Hope this is of some help.

The ice maker is what tells the water control valve to open so it may be correct now and the thermostat in ice maker may be defective. Part 27 or 627985 down below where it says Whirlpool Ice Maker Parts Breakdown and in that photo is the ice maker thermostat. If your ice maker has been used for many years the complete ice maker may be better to replace. There sould be a set of water control valves on rear of refrigerator and where the water comes into refrigerator dispenser and ice maker. When one goes bad you replace both. You can test the windings in each coil or test for voltage while someone presses dispense water.I will ty to locate one set with your model number. Sea Breeze
Open the door and hold the door switch down and try the ice
dispenser. Do you hear any thing. Take all the ice out of the bin and try.
Anything? Take the bin out and try. Anything? The motor is behind the back
cover where the bin sits. See if you get power to it using a voltmeter. If your
are, probably bad motor. If not dispenser switch.
Icemaker is in line with the water and runs from the icemaker threw the door and up to the water valve. So that is why the ice maker is working and the water is not working, most likely the water has frozen inside, And this can be caused by many different reasons, if it has been humid or the door was left open then shut it would cause the moisture in the air to be drawn to the warm water and flash frosted the pipe, try to see if you can defrost the line with a hair dryer. If that does not work post here and I will tell you the next step to try.
I have a whirlpool side by side. water and ice in front. ice working and water not. the hose is not frozen and it is not humming when you push the water dispenser. It would give us water and quit but now we have nothing.
I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.
check to make sure there is water or ice in your ice maker tray. If none then problem is usually a water supply issue to the ice maker. Behind the frig are the water supply inlet valves. One is for the water dispenser in the door. THe other is for the ice maker. However when one goes bad they both are replaced as one unit. Also Check position of fingers in ice maker. If not in a vertical position
then try to reset the ice maker unit and worse comes to worse, replace
it with a new one.
there is a tank in the refrigerator section that hlds about 1.5 gal of water as you dispense it refills and pushes out the cold water. if your unit is new it will need a day to cool down the tank of water before you will get cold cold water at the dispenser
Hope this help explain how it works
