The PS2 do not have a hard drive unlike the PS3. You really need the memory card for that.

I loaned out my copy of NFS:MW and it got trashed. I bought a new copy and it won't let me load my saved games. I checked and both discs are same version. I also checked the memory card, which has saves...

I owned that game a few years back, so much fun.
I had a similar problem. I had to get a new copy of it because I lost my old one. Well when I put it in it wouldn't let me load my old profile, so I took out the memory card, took out the game disc, turned off the PS2. Turned the PS2 back on and let it sit without anything in it for a little while, then I put the memory card back in a different slot, checked to see that my saved games from NFS:MW were still there, and then I put the disc in and it loaded my profile.
This worked for me, but it may be that the serial brands on the two discs are different. Since the release of the PS3, PS2 discs have been made with a back tracking element to allow it to be played on all sony systems in the future. So it may be that your old disc was pre-backtracking and your new disc or post-backtracking. If that is the case, i'd say go to your nearest gaming shop and let them come up with a solution. It's better to get hands on help with stuff like that.

I bought a new ps2 and a datel 32mb card and the game i put in says there is no memory card,

Try these steps. If this doesn't work you may want to take the card to Game Stop or something and have them test it to see if it's working. Hope this helps!

  1. Insert the Memory Card into the PlayStation 2 console. The port is located directly above the controller port. Note that there are two different memory card ports; there is no difference between the two. Some games, however, will attempt to auto-load from slot one so it is recommended that you keep your memory card inserted in slot one.
  2. Plug your controller into the PlayStation 2. Power up the system without a PS2 disc inserted. You will be taken to the system menu screen. Select the "Memory Card" menu to examine any data on the card. If the memory card is new there should be no data on the card, if it is used you may see old saves from the previous owner on the card. If you no longer desire to keep these saves, you may highlight them and press the "Triangle" button to delete them.
  3. Insert your PlayStation 2 game disc into the system. When the disc appears on the system menu, select it. Load the game, and play until you are prompted to either create a user profile, or to save your game. Once you have saved any data to the memory card, reset the system.
  4. Select the "Memory Card" menu and examine your memory card. You should see a new icon representing your game's save data. If this data appears on the card, you have correctly set-up your PS2 Memory Card.

If the data does not appear on the card, you will need to format the card. If the system detects corrupt data on the card it will automatically open a prompt asking if you would like to format the memory card. Select "Yes" and the PlayStation 2 will format the card.

Memory Card Corrupted

you cannot save another file until you delete previous one.Corruption occurs if the memory card is removed from console or if you reset the game while saving or loading game remember this also happens when you are saving or loading game and electricity turns off.

Memory card

You can use it to save Ps1 games only if im not mistaken. The ps2 games themselves won't recognize the memory card.

Hope this helps.

PS2 slim line, cant load saved games

it's either your ps2 or your memorycard.. my suggestion is to buy another memory card, and if the problem reveals unsolved by doing that, you shold call the manufacturer about the problem, because then it is the console itself which is the problem..
