You must hook up a water line to the bottom right rear of unit then push dispenser to purge air from lines, icemaker may need a day or two to purge itself before making ice.

My Kenmore side by side fridge isn't cooling hardly. Feeling the suction and discharge lines I think it's low on freon. How do I charge it?

Well I have to go, so I can't wait for your reply for more info. Basicallty what happened to me was the freezer became very good at freezing. The problem with modern freezer/fridges is that there is only one cooling system, the freezer. The freezer chills the other side to chill the refrigerator. Something was blocking that vent into the fridge side. Turns out it was ice blocking the vent into the refer side. It happens when it is humid and the kids to "shopping" in the fridge and leave the door opened for extended periods of time.

If you are blocked by stuff in your fridge, move it away from the vent. If nothing there, you'll need to get ready for a bit of time. Side-by-side freezer/fridges, typically the freezer is on the left. So, open the fridge, somewhere near the back about 2/3s of the way down, just above the vegetable bin, on the left side. Remove the cover, if something is stuck in there, gently try to remove it. If it is ice, like I had, you should remove your vegetable bin and meat bin and unplug the unit (to prevent shock as water will be everywhere. Be sure that your overflow tray (under the unit) is empty. Next is to make quite a bit of boiling water (I ended up using just over a gallon). If you are at the point where you can't get the cover off, you'll have to use a baster to melt the ice that is holding your vent cover on (that is where I started). Then you can start working on the ice. You need to keep putting water in until you get hot water in the overflow tray. Replace your food and don't slam the fridge control all the way to the coldest setting, you could end up freezing your meat and vegetables.

The repairman came and told us, he could do this for us for $200 or we could do it ourselves. He would have done the exact same thing.

Kenmore model# 106.9547651 ice maker has stopped working; water dispenser works.

A valve controls water flow into the ice trays. It is a common source of the trouble you describe. You may be able to get an overhaul kit for just the valve

Ice maker is on but is not producing ice

The ice maker is probably not getting water. Have you heard the water valve click on and off to allow water to flow to the ice maker? If you get chilled water from the fridge, the ice maker's water valve will probably sound very similar to when you dispense chilled water. Try the water to listen for it. Then, listen for it over the course of an hour or so to determine if the ice maker is doing the same thing. If you hear it - then there may be a blockage in the line or filter.

If you don't have provisions to get chilled water from your fridge (ice only) or notice that you can't get water from your fridge any more: Make sure the water supply is on and.. that supply line isn't kinked or got crushed when the fridge was pushed back into position. This is a pretty common occurrence. If you don't hear any water valve clicking, the valve itself may have failed or there may be a problem with the electrical circuit. Hopefully, you won't have to got beyond this, but if so - let us know.

Good luck!

In the last week ice has tasted bad and bitter. Changed filter and cleaned freezer but no change.

What about the refrigerator side? Air is exchanged between the refrigerator and the freezer to chill the fridge side. You could also try flushing the waterline, allowing any old water and contaminants/rust to purge away and try another new filter. Lastly, though the maker itself shouldn't be the problem, it's not hard to remove, usually just a couple of screws and one small plug. Clean the mold with mild detergent, maybe a soft brush, and rinse well.
I must insist that you unplug the appliance from power before attempting removal of the icemaker for your safety. Be sure to plug the appliance back in when done.

If that doesn't clear it up, you've just got bad water. You can either buy ice, or some ice trays and make ice from store-bought water.

Condensation on the outside of the ice/water dispenser on freezer side.

Turn the water supply off to the back of refrigerator and take the line feeding the supply to the water control valves off and then put the line into a pan to purge any trash that may have collected before entering control valve. It is very possible that a piece of rust or a piece of plastic is holding the control valve open slightly. The continuous dripping of the chilled water is what I suspect is causing the condensate. On bottom of the refrigerator Sears uses a number like this example. You may find the number behind the cold food section door near floor. I will need that to help you better. Example 215.22897
Sears always gives their models a different number than the same models that GE, Whirlpool, Westinghouse and on and on. When you are able to see if the valve is stuck and need to clean or replace it we will need your model like in the example to find the correct part, Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

No water being pumped to ice machine

The water valve is a dual one. Apparently the side that sevices the IM has given up the ghost.Just follow the water line in the back to the valve. Be sure to cut off the water before removing the water line. It may be that the IM is not powering the water valve. You can make it work manually by using a cheater cord. Put 125 volts to the side with the small line. It might have continuity but still have a mechanucal failure with in it. Read MORE...
