Maxtor Can't Touch

I have a Maxtor One Touch III 500Gb that was no longer acessible via any connection on it Firewire800/400/USB. I have voided the warranty by opening it up, because I didn't want to give any data recovery people access to my files. I have now connected it as a SATA HDD on a PC and it is recognised in the BIOS....however, not recognised in Computer Management/Disk Management (WINXP SP2). Any ideas on making it accesible?
Thanks

Hi msgspx,
When you installed your windows I'm guessing you ran windows quick format? You should have downloaded MaxBlast 5 software & ran the software on your SATA drive first.
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=maxblast-eula&vgnextoid=65af7bb4d9391110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD

If you do not like the Maxtor software you can also use Segates software. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=discwizard-eula&vgnextoid=580a5e3ddbf60110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD

After running the software try installing windows again. I'm sure your drive will function correctly.
(Maxtor has alot of trouble with their drives IDE/SATA, so do not be surprised if your new drive ends up faulty).

Good Luck & Best Regards!

I understand the problem you are going through and it is due to the fact that win xp sp2 install an NTFS filesytem on its hard drive and this file system was designed to be secure in a way that you don't remove disk drive or add disk drives just like that. Now the best solution would be to just reinstall you xp machine with sp2 with the hard drive already in the case.In this way xp will be able to recognize it as one of its own drives and now you will have access to it.

I have a Maxtor One-Touch III 750GB External Drive that has worked well for over a year. This past weekend the icon disappeared from my desktop and I can't get it back. I'm running a MaxOS X 10.5.5 OS...

mine will also occasionally disappear. i have had to do a restart of the pc which gets it back for my 160 gb firewire external.
the blinking light may be indicative of the hdd going bad, though.

Maxtor one touch III, Error code 10. Cannot access the device on any computer and "USB device not recognized". How do I get my data off of this thing?

The drive has failed. Most likely your data is lost, or will be very expensive to retrieve by a specialist.

Purchased Maxtor ONE TOUCH III. when I had XP. Now that I have Vista, mAXTOR DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT. iS THERE AN UP-DATE? nEED HELP. Thanks Marty xmartico@san.rr.com

Hey xmartico,

If your recent update from Windows XP to Windows Vista has been the only major change to your computer system since you could access your Maxtor One Touch III last, you may simply need to reinstall the Maxtor software to resolve the problem.

Information provided by the manufacturer has suggested that if no password was ever set, the hard drive should work with Vista immediately with no additional work required. If you had chosen a password however, you may need to reinstall the software and reboot every time you disconnect/shut down the external drive, or disable your user account control (UAC). Please keep in mind though that disabling UAC is strongly discouraged, as it may open your computer to attacks by various malware programs including viruses and spyware.

If you're still not quite sure how to proceed, I would strongly recommend contacting Maxtor directly for further assistance.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

I need a replacement USB interface board for a Maxtor One Touch II.

Hi Dave. I broke the USB interface board inside my Maxtor One Touch II. I am looking to see if I can get a replacement as Seagate are as helpful as a chocolate teapot. If I put the drive into a Freecom caddy, I can't read it. If I connect it to my PCs IDE bus, I can. I shall try another USB interface.

Maxtor one touch III 500g, got knocked over and now when its switched on it just beeps at me, and nothing appears to happen. I can't see any damage but it's certainly not working.

First things first;
hello
1) verify the connection
2) you have to change the Disk on another USB port 2.0
3) if you got warranty I suggest you change the device.** if apply.
good luck

Maxtor One Touch III

Download and run maxtor powermax, when you run the program it will idenify your hard drives, select your one touch and run the recertify, this will not erase anything but will run a complete diagnostic and attempt recovery of data to recertify as good. If the drive fails I have recovery software I can e-mail you.
