Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

We have a Toshiba 27AF45 color TV. We receive our programming through Dish satellite. When the switchover to digital occurs, will we be able to coninue our reception through Dish without the addition of the $40 box? If our reception will continue without the box, will it actually be digital? In other words, would we get better, clearer reception if we purchase and connect the $40 box that we've heard about?

You cannot receive digital signal with your analog dish. Therefore you will need to switch to digital box soon.
I think they will lnitially leave both analog and digital for a little while, so that for sometime you should be able to use your old equipment(not sure).
In any case digital signal is usually better than analog then you should get a better picture if you switch to digital box.

Yes ofcourse you will get a clearer reception on any kind of televisions. I have seen Bulky flat screen tvs' give a lot better output after hooking up the box and with projection and Plasma tvs' its just mind blowing.. By the way i own a box too..

Hi i have a universal remote px-rc1 and i dont know what is the code for toshiba tv 27AF45 model and how to set it so that i can switch between tv and video(AV) modes. please help me with this

Hello
Three digit universal remote codes for Toshiba TV are:
013/ 049/ 089/ 105/ 109/ 117/ 118/ 120/ 159/ 178
Four digit codes are:
0240 0261 0260 0287 0290 0358 0369
0924 0398 0274 0341
Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand.

I am trying to connect my tv to the directv satellite dish, I am having a few problems. My question is does this tv need the cable connection from the satellite or do I just need to connect the satellite...

The dish is always connected to the receiver and then the receiver is connected to the TV. Then you have to call Direct TV to have the receiver authorized to receive programming. Or, call them in the beginning and let them do everything.

Sat finder detects signal on 61.5 Sat but receiver does not display or lock.

Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. The 61.5 Satellite carries mostly High Definition programming. If your Satellite Dish is an older model, it is not equipped to bring that Satellite in. It is the part on the Dish called the LNBF (the eyes) that will pick up the satellites. Your receiver is a Standard Definition, you should be reading the 119 & 100 Satellites. I hope this helped but if you have additional questions, please let me know.

Connected my laptop to Toshiba 27AF45 tv with VGA cable and RGB but it does not display properly - shows color and rolling black lines. Any suggestions?

Hello
VGA [Video Graphics Arrey] and RGB [Red-Green-Blue] sockets are not compactable, and will not get a proper display. You must have a converter [VGA=>RGB] is needed in between. Ok

You're closed captioning is all jumbled up on Seattle's KIRO TV from my DISH network. The cc works fine on all other channels. Dish says it's a network problem. Any response?

The CC is provided to DISH (and all cable/satellite companies) by the network that creates the programming. Usually, live TV (like news, sports, etc) is the most jumbled because of the time it takes someone to transpose what is being spoken as it is being spoken. If this is a network that is available OTA (via antenna), verify that the issue is not happening when you are receiving the signal from somewhere other than DISH (if you cannot receive an OTA signal, try at a buddy's house that uses another cable provider). If the problem occurs via OTA or other providers, contact KIRO to have them improve their CC service. If it only happens when viewed with DISH, contact DISH, who will then resolve the issue with KIRO (usually a lag time in signal transmission from the provider).

Have Direct TV using a Sony Digital Satellite receiver model #SAT B2-2 /Sony Satellite dish purchased in 7/97. I get local channels thru Direct TV. Recently, local channels will show on the Direct TV guide...

Your dish is out of alignment. The local channel satellite doesn't have as strong of a signal, so a slight misalignment will cause problems.

It could also be an F-connector needs to be replaced at the dish or multiswitch (if you have one). Sometimes moisture builds up inside the connector and corrodes the copper stinger inside.

If you go into your satellite signal strength menu and find the local channel satellite, you're sure to see either a weak signal or an intermittent one.

One more thing, if a tree has grown in the line of sight between the dish and the satellite, this will cause signal problems too. In this case, you either have to trim the tree or move the dish.

Hope this helps!

P.S.
The customer service reps at DirecTV usually idiots reading from a script with no real field experience.

I have a philips dvdr70

From the Sky box, plug one SCART lead to your recorder and plug another to your TV. Then plug a SCART from the TV to the recorder.

You can then select the SCART connector for the sky box to record programs.

This will work after the digital switchover. The switchover is only for 'normal' tv signals from your tv aerial
