Logically you should not configure the server when the network is running. Reason being that some network node may be engaged in data transfer or some such work and if you configure the network their data may get lost or corrupted. To avoid such a situation you must stop all networks so that those working that time will be given a warning that network is going down and they should finish their work and save the data. On a network due consideration has to be given to data security.
Bi-directional operation is a facility of the BIOS port you might use. it usually refers to a parallel port which can be set in the bios as uni directional or bidirectional so in the bios under PERIPHERAL DEVICES you would set to bi-directional.. so it is not something you can set in the printer settings. when it connects to the port the printer tests to see if it can use bidirectional transfers or not. If it can't it just means its a bit less efficient so will take long to transfer data. A similar error message might be issued for a network/wifi connection if a FIREWALL prevented communications. Or if you had used an OLD driver meant for a different older parallel printer. your printer is too new and should be wifi connected. You may have used a wifi ad-hoc pc-printer direct connection which could be causing the issue. preferred method is always printer-router-pc non ad-hoc using tcp/ip ports. so check your firewall settings http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=content&id=SO3908&locale=en&userlocale=EN_US
To install the HP as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Configure the HP's IP address so it matches the IP range of your network. eg if your IP's are 192.168.0.xxx then set the HP to a high number say 100.
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer to the network hub/router and power up the printer.
4. Click on Printers an Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standart TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bidirectional support and then OK
You need to setup the HP printer the same way on every computer on your network.
You can now print from any computer on your network
First, I assume that it copies, etc. I would try rebooting the computer and go into the BIOS settings and check the configuration of the lpt port. You might see choices such as: EPP, ECP, BiDirectional or some such nomenclature. Whatever it is currently set at, try another one of the settings. I've typically found that either ECP or BiDirectional tend to work the best. Or, as an alternative, you could use the network interface and make it a network printer.
The printer port on 2600 series routers does not support bidirectional printing. This feature should be disabled for the product to function normally. See Related Articles at right for further information.
Solution
To disabling bidirectional printing:
Go to [Start > Settings > Printers] or [Start > Control Panel > Printers], depending on your version of Windows.
Right-click the printer and select [Properties].
Select�the�[Ports] tab.
Deselect [Enable bidirectional support].

The types of printers that you have actually should be assigned to a free port, you cant setup 2 printers on the same port. check at the back of the printer the physical attachment of two printers the OKI and the Epson, if Oki is set to lpt1 then assign port from printer properties for oki to lpt1, and lpt2 on epson. 1 printer- 1 port, so by then check if the box for enable bidirectional support is check, remove the check mark from the box by clicking on it then hit apply then try printing a test page then try printing from application.
Had same problem even after loading latest Vista driver. Found solution by disabling bidirectional printing flag on the port configuration menu. Hope this helps.
