Question about Mitsubishi WS-65809 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Getting there... So the main problem with the picture was the bulbs needed to be manually adjusted and the convergence was way off. I now have a perfect brilliant picture when i am using my xbox360 in hi def (either 480p or 1080i), but when i try to display a low resolution image, such as turning my 360 to low def, watching tv, or hooking up a ps2, all i get are green and pink vertical lines. This is true for ALL inputs, even the DTV that i am using for 360. There seems to be no change in image when using a component or not, just a tiny added fuzz. I really want to be able to watch tv on this thing, and not just play games and watch movies. And since cable boxes cant be permanently set to 1080i, i need your help. i know how to solder and the basics of electronics. if i can possibly fix this myself, i will. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

You would need the service manual and actually trouble shoot the input circuits. If you would like a link where you can purchase the manual and have it emailed instantly to you let me know. The service manuals there are cheap and the quality is exceptional.

Double picture on start up

Hi,
It's a convergence issue. Go into the main TV menu under video settings and look for convergence. If it has an auto convergence select that and wait a minute the TV will adjust itself and give you a clear picture.
If the TV does not have an auto convergence and just regular convergence than select this. It will give you a grid pattern on your TV and you have to move the coursor (using TV remote) and adjust each "point" so that each line is perfectly white. If you notice red or blue anywhere on that "line" then you have to adjust using the up, down, left and right arrow keys to "line up the red and blue lines with the nearest white line. It takes time and patience to do, but when completed, all lines on the grid pattern should be pure white and you will have a great looking picture.
You have to do this will all TV inputs (Video1, Video2 and so on) the reason Zoom looks good, is because you never used that screen as much and so the lenses didn't have a chance to get out of syncs.
RPTV's are made of the three lenses (red, Blue and Green) and as you watch TV, these lenses slowly get out of alignment. So you should do a convergence about twice a year to make sure nothing is out of whack.
Good luck...

The picture curves in the top left corner of my tv.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony2_bing.gif,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer2_bing.gif, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

Characters on picture look double and colors not lined up

HI, the convergence board or unit is failing at this point. you will need to replace the entire board in this case. most of the components are damaged.

The convergence board is the main regulator of the RGB stream. it also controls color focus as well. replace the convergence board asap.
