Question about Epson Stylus Photo 1280 InkJet Printer

Printer freezes up

While running my 4th or 5th nozzle check, the printer started blinkingthe green power light and the red maintenance light alternately (one, then the other). Pressing the yellow cartridge change button doesnothing.

I shut it off, unplugged it, released the print head manually (pressdown white plastic dog,) and moved the print head to the cartridgechange position by hand. I changed one cart, then theother. No change. Printer will not do anything butblink. I don't see any blockage or broken things.

Epson support (india) says Mechanical failure get a new printer.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Les

What is the "cleaning" button, what is the "load/eject" button?

On the 1280 front panel I have a power button and a maintenance (paper out, etc) each with a light. There is a third "roll paper" button with no light. Inside the cover is a yellow cartridge replacement button, no light.

Thanks (The idea of a full waste counter makes sense.)

Try this:

1. Turn the printer off using the power button on the panel of the printer.
2. Disconnect the interface cable at the back of the printer.
3. Hold down the "LOAD/EJECT" and "CLEANING" buttons simultaneously.
4. Turn the printer on. Release all buttons as soon as paper out light flashes.
5. Quickly press (within 3 seconds while PAPER OUT light is flashing) the "CLEANING" button for 10 seconds.
6. Release the button and the printer will initialize.
7. Once initialization is complete, turn the printer off.
8. Reconnect the interface cable.
9. Turn the printer on
You waste ink pad counter has reached its maximum. This procedure should reset it. You could also try the Epson SSC software here: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html if the above procedure doesn't work.

Keep in mind that if you don't replace the ink pad or clean it (Cheaper), you may run into print quality problems when the ink starts to overflow.

Good luck!

You should also check that is not a driver problem, by reinstalling the drivers from lexmark.

sorry from Epson I mean. Here is the driver page from Epson.

Remove printer from control panel, deleting it from printers. Remove drivers when asked. Unplug printer. Restart computer. Install new drivers from website or from cd rom provided. Plug back printer and finish driver setup.

If the printer still does not work try also putting back one of old cartridges, the cartridge may be faulty.

If you did everything correctly the printer should work. If it still does not, then can be any mechanical or electronical problem inside. This printers are quite simple and they do not return an error message, therefore they may result difficult to troubleshoot in this case.

My r290 add red color to my photos

*** I'll be more than happy to help you on that. you might be talking about R280, because theres no R290 for epson. there is a great possibility thatsome of the nozzles of your printer are clogged by dried inks, thats why when it prints, the inks are not equally distributed or is not balanced.to check that, print a nozzle check, and if you see gaps or breaks, between the lines, do head cleaning. this is how you can do it, its very easy for you. Using the Buttons on the Printer 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer, and the red maint.5.1.8.jpg ink light is not on. (If the red maint.5.1.9.jpg ink light is on, you need to replace a cartridge.) 2. Turn the printer off and make sure the front tray is in the paper (lower) position. 3. Make sure letter-size plain paper is loaded in the printer. 4. Hold down the maint.5.1.10.jpg paper button, then press the maint.5.1.11.jpg power button. Hold down both buttons until the maint.5.1.12.jpg power light begins to flash, then release the maint.5.1.13.jpg power button. maint.5.1.14.jpg 5. When the nozzle check starts to print release the maint.5.1.15.jpg paper button. Check the nozzle check pattern that prints to see if there are gaps in the lines. maint.5.1.16.jpg 6. If there are no gaps or lines, the print head does not need to be cleaned. If there are gaps or lines, or the test patterns are faint, follow the steps in do the Head Cleaning to clean the nozzles. Using the Buttons on the Printer 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red maint.5.1.23.jpg ink light is off. (If the red maint.5.1.24.jpg ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge.) 2. Hold down the maint.5.1.25.jpg ink button on the printer for approximately 3 seconds. The printer runs a head cleaning cycle and the green maint.5.1.26.jpg power light flashes. Cleaning takes several seconds. Caution:
Never turn off the printer while head cleaning is in progress. You may damage it.

Do not insert the CD/DVD tray until cleaning has finished. 3. When the green maint.5.1.27.jpg power light stops flashing, make sure paper is loaded in the printer, then print a nozzle check to determine whether you need to clean the print head again. Print Head Nozzles If you don’t see any improvement after cleaning three times, turn the printer off and wait overnight. This allows any dried ink to soften. Then, try cleaning the print head again.

Not getting pink/red from printer. New Magenta

When the printer is ready with the green light on, you press and hold the resume button until the green light flashes twice and release the resume button. The printer will print a nozzle check page. If colors are missing you may need a new printhead.

How to clean printer heads

You can try and clean the printer head by holding down the maintenance button on the printer control panel for three seconds.

If that doesn't work then make sure the red light is off. If it is blinking, check the cartridge to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Otherwise, either right click the status monitor 3 icon in the windows taskbar and select clean head, or on a Mac use the print utility.

When the green light stops flashing run a nozzle check.

If the nozzle check gives you 4 clean boxes your good, if they are grainy or lined rerun the cleaning. You may have to run this several times and the cleaning uses a lot of ink, so be prepared to replace the ink when it is all over.

Epson CX7450 paper jammed

In some cases, this is cause by a nozzle that got clogged during the jam. You can run head cleaning utility either from the printer or from the computer.

1. Make sure that there are no error lights (red lights), just a solid green light.
2. Take out all cartridges from the printer and put them back in.
3. Once the printer is done charging the inks and you have a solid green light again. Hold down the Ink Button for 3 seconds, after this you'll hear movements within the printer, this is the head cleaning process.
4. Once the printer stops making noises, and you have a solid green light again. Power Off the printer
5. Once the unit is OFF, hold down the paper button while turning the printer ON. Once you see the blinking green light release BOTH buttons. The printer will then print the nozzle check pattern.

* Note: The nozzle check pattern should display all colors in the printer and there should be no gap or break between the lines itself.

6. Do this step 3-4 consecutive times. and that should resolve you concern
