Harman kardon avr 254

You can check all your speaker wires for shorts, as well as try the reset to factory defaults procedure found in your owner's manual, but I doubt this will resolve your issue. If you require more assistance, or would like to inquire about repairing your HK, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com, and contact me there. BTW, I worked for Harman as technical support for all Harman, JBL and Infinity products. Thank you.

I have the Harman Kardon AVR 254. Just recently it stopped responding. It will cut on and the volume dial will respond but none of the front panel buttons will. Any suggestions on a fix?

There should be two fuses on the secondary board of the main power transformer. They don't look like regular fuses - they are small round can fuses. These are probably open. HK under-valued these fuses originally, and they need to be replaced with 3.15 amp.

My Cox HD/DVR controller will turn off but will not turn on my new HKAVR1700 using the AUX button on the Cox supplied URC-8820-Cisco remote.

This is a documented problem with the Harmon/Kardon AVR-1700 and the Cox remote. Here's how I solved it. On the HK1700, go to System Settings and turn on HDMI Link. This will allow your TV (if it has the feature) to put the HK in standby mode when you power down the TV. Go to your setting on your TV and turn on HDMI link, or equivalent. I have a Sony TV and the setting is called "Control For HDMI." Then, use code 0110 for your Cox remote. This code will only turn on the HK, not turn it off. BUT, the HDMI Link should put the HK into standby.

HK avr 300 remote not working

Try another remote first, such as a universal one. If that doesn't work the system, the I/R unit inside is bad.
If you want to fix it yourself you might want to hunt down the service manual for it.
You can trace back from the I/R sensor to the PC board and see if there are any parts that can be replaced. You could even try changing the sensor itself.

AVR 254 is not responding. None of its front panel buttons are working (except volume). Same thing with the remote. I noticed that in the front panel area, the speaker icons in the Speaker/Channel Input...

The reason your receiver is causing you issues is cause of a 2 time Delay fuse's on the transformer board all you have to do is to by pass them.
Check the connector on the top front of the HDMI board. at the bottom of the connector it tells you the voltage of each wire the middle one is GND. should read 1.8v and 5.6v if the 5.6v line is dead. you key's in the front panel and sometimes video and audio as well.. will also stop working. all you have to do is to by pass them.

I will be posting a video later today on how to fix this issue. Regards,

Harmony remote with Harmon Kardon receiver

HK AVR 347-I took it back- everyone was frustrated and the verdict was that it just doesn't work. I have a Dennon now and it doesn't sound as good as the HK but it works most of the time. Not sure it the Harmony is the problem. I'm reading the Dennon manual now and it seems the Dennon remote can do what the Harmony is trying to do. Harmony support is awesome and we'll keep trying. Sooo- was there a trick to it?
